The miraculous gifts of the Holy Spirit were given by the laying on of the apostles' hands (Acts 8:17-19). Nobody has these miraculous gifts today.

I've been given the gift of 'listening'. Naturally, I use it often, and most people love to talk, so I can give them my full attention and they often open up their hearts, which is lovely. I've always been a listener rather than a talker, but it's only recently that I realised this is my gift from God. Blessings.

I have a natural gift for learning languages, I've always considered it a gift of tongues. it may not be instantantious, but I know God is helping me.
the first guy is right, those gifts come by the laying on of hands by those who hold authority from God, but those gifts, and those authorized people, DO exist today. if you'd like to know more, visit www.mormon.org.

What makes you think that the spirit gives gifts? You are assuming that everyone believes as you do.

As a Catholic, I am not sure what you are exactly asking. Hopefully you are not thinking in terms of charismatic pentacostal spirits (with a small s)?

When I made my confirmation, The following Gifts were increased: Seven Gifts of the Holy Spirit: Wisdom, Understanding, Knowledge, Counsel, Fortitude, Piety, and Fear of God.
These gifts are lost by mortal sin and increased as one advances in perfection.

The gift of wisdom enables us to recognize the emptiness of earthly things. I think I am advancing in this.

The gift of Understanding enables us to distinquish Catholic teaching from all other doctrine. So far, so good for me.

The gift of knowledge enables us to obtain a clear grasp of the teachings of the Catholic church without special study. I have met only a few people who have excelled in this.

The gift of counsel enables us to know under difficult circumstances what the will of God is. For the most part I can usually tell what God's will is in my life and accept it.

The gift of fortitude enables us to bear courageously whatever is necessary in carrying out God's will. We should all pray for this.

The gift of piety enables us to make continual efforts to honor God more and more and to carry out his Will more perfectly. I should hope to gaining piety.

The gift of the Fear of God enables us to fear giving offense to God more than all the evils in the world. I think this is a battle for everyone.

There are also other gifts: Gift of Tongues, of miracles (many saints had this), of prophesy and discernment of spirits, of visions and ecstacies, etc. It is important to note that the Gift of Tongues means that the person will speak in another language (not known to the person) that is not gibberish. I am speaking of a language other than one's one native tongue. The gift of tongues was given to the aspostles so that they could preach the Gospel. One should exercise extreme caution regarding the gift of tongues. Most so-called gift of the tongue are really gibberish and manifestations of the devil to get people hiped into an emotional frenzy.

None that I can recognize. But maybe it's not for me to say. Is it a gift to be able to see the beauty in most people?

Speaking in other tongues, which I do sometimes when I pray, especially when I don't know how to pray "in the natural".
Discerning of spirits. I can tell (when God shows me) what kind of spirit (or situation) someone is in. I use this to immediately pray.

Discerning of spirits, I have only used it personally and while praying about someone with my husband.
