my son just turned 6 and has a habit of repeating what he says in a whisper. He will ask me a question or someting the mumble it again under his breath. He is very active and labled a "spirited child" which he is very persistant and a challenge to manage. Just wondering if anyone elses child does this and what is your childs behavior like?

It could mean he is an audio learner and learns best through sound. He listens to what he says again, by whispering and is processing the info in his head. Audio learners learn best through sound, music, lectures, etc.

I have a 12 year old daughter that has done this and a few other things she doesn't realize she's doing (hand flapping) for years. When I ask her why she does this, she is often taken by surprise bc she didn't realize she had just did it. It was explained to me it is a form of learning, reviewing and processing what she has just heard and/or said.

WOW i thought mine was the only one that did that..i have a 5 year old daughter who is spirited ontop of many other things...she will talk baby talk first and then you ask her what did she say and she whispers it...its frustrating at times but you really have to get on her level i mean floor wise and talk to her for her to open up...she is also being tested for add adhd right now...well good luck and maybe you should contact your pediatrician and ask for their knowledge..

My daughter will do that. When you ask her a question she will sometimes answer it in a whisper. She does this because she can't pronounce some of the words and gets embarrassed.

My son is a year and a half and while he is learning to talk, he repeats certain things in a whisper.

My nephew does that. He's a sensitive child. He's not slow, he's not evil, he's a little boy that needs a little extra attention. I love him more for the little quirks that he has. If you are really concerned, I would ask your pediatrician about it, and remember to give that little man a bunch of your attention.

that kind of stuff reminds me of the omen! I knew a little one who did that and when asked why he said so I can remember what you said. At least yours isn't yelling what you say!

I use to babysit a 10 yr. old that did that. I asked his mother why and she told me that he was "slow" She said he was exposed to mercury when he was little. So she said it was from Mercury posion too!
