Hey, thnx 4 even clicking on the question. My little bro got a 2 month old kitten on sunday, and it's great, but the problem is that whenever it goes in the room with birds, it stares @ them in that position cats go in when they want 2 pounce. Now I'm afraid 2 leave them in the house together cuz I think the kitten will try 2 eat them and/or scare the 3 birds. The birds R in cages, but I still don't want the cat thinking they're food and going after them. I can't move the cages cuz that room was designed 4 them. there's no door and I can't build 1 cuz of issues with the city. Plus the fact that I'm only 13 and don't have enough cash or know how 2 do that and my parents wouldn't like a door there anyway. We aren't gonna let the cat stay outside cuz she'll get a taste 4 birds if she catches any, and our house is rly big. plz help cuz I like both the birds and the cat, but they can't live 2gether if the cat wants 2 eat them.

sry about it being so long, ppl. It's mostly details, so u can just skim over it. the parrots R about the size of robins or other animals. My little bro says we can't make it an outside cat 4 sum reason, and he's basically the boss of us when it comes 2 her (he's rly spoiled.) The cages R up on stands about 3 ft. off the ground, so she can't rly jump that high yet, but there's a windowsill close 2 them. I'll try the squirt method, though.

Well well well, yes it is like oil and water, but you can make em mix. First you gota train the cats. Buy or make a doll similar to your bird. Now wht does cats not like, dogs of course. So record the sound of a dog in a tape. Now put the dolly bird in front of the cat. If you are right then the cat will pounce on it, and when it gets really close, turn the tape of the dog sounds on. The cat will retreat. Do this for a while, a couple of years worth should do it( just kidning, just do it till it stops pouncing, should take a few hours though). It should become scared of it. And to be on the safe side, make sure that the bird cage is not near any table or shelfs. if you wnt more help just go to www.cclub.editboard.com

Maybe if you introduce the cat to the birds by holding both the cat & a bird so that they can't move & let the cat check it out, just don't let the cat get to close to the bird. Maybe that will work, thats how I got my cat used to dogs. But keep in mind that birds ARE cats natural prey & it still might try to get at them. Can you maybe put the cat in A closed room when not supervised by you? that might be what you'll have to do. Oh yeah, cats can get threw the cages & get the birds, I know I had my birds on my porch(2 floors up) I didn't think that anything could get to them but one evening I herd a lot of commotion with the birds I went to check them out & there was a masacare out there. So sad I liked my love birds a lot. Be very careful.

OK you are in a bit of a situation here, it's a cats nature to eat birds, especially big juicy parrot! I think the only chance you have of getting the cat used to them is putting it in the room while you are there and scolding it every time it goes near the birds. if this does not work after a few weeks forget it and get an extra strong cage so the cat can't ge tin. Oh and by the way the cat could kill them without eating them, he could scare them into a heart attack (no joke!) so mind he doesn't stress them out too much.

If the birds are in cages, I don't think you have anything to worry about. Just make sure that it isn't easy to open the cages because cats are very smart and it may be able to figure out how to do that. Cats are also natural predators, so it can't help being attracted to the birds. It's funny to watch them sometimes. Just make sure that when you see it looking at the birds like that, you tell it "no" or shoo it away. Evenutally little kitty will get the hint.

Can you move the birds up high where the cat can not get hte birds?? Or put the birds in your room and close the door, leave a note on the door to keep it closed beacuse of the cat. I hope this helps you .

That small of a bird I wouldnt trust around the cat. If it was a larger parrot I'd say, let the cat try and mess with the parrot, it'll only do it once, but not with a smaller bird. I'd personally..make the cat disappear. But thats just me. I love birds, I've kept parrots for years..I don't like cats at all.

Put the birds in a room where your cat cant go. Also, cover the cage with a blanket at night or whenever you're going to be gone for a long time. Cats will be cats, it's their instinct to prey upon birds.

whenever you see the cat acting like its going to pounce, make sure you have a squirt bottle handy that is full of water. Whenever the cat acts this way, squirt the cat! Cats hate water, or at least most of them do, eventually the cat will get tired of the water and leave the birds alone.

You are trying to go against the laws of nature, it can be done with cats, and dogs , but birds, and cats Hmmm.
You can try using the spray bottle method when ever you see the cat looking at the birds, but don't count on it working.
Good luck

The best bet would be to make it an outside cat. It doesn't matter if it gets a taste for birds if it's not in the house. Other than that you will always be worried.
