From experience, I've typcially found JL to lead the way with subwoofers. My intended setup is 2 JL 12" W7s.

In terms of amplifier I'm torn between 2 JL 1000/1s or 2 Phoenix Gold 800/1s. I know the JLs have 200watts max extra each but the a PG powers my friends 12" W7 and he saw 137.6 DB at a drag in Nashville (no Dynamatiing or custom box). And the PG amp is NICE.

What is the best decision to make for subwoofer / amplifier quality, DB, and life-span from ya'll's experiences?

i have mixed feelings on the w7. first off let me say i think they are very very overpriced and overated. hear me out. there not a bad speaker, but there not the best ever like some people just assume when they see one. i personally think the eclipse titaniums sound better and are louder. but i dont own a pair. i own a pair of boston acoustics g512's. they are only $400 a peice. and with 2 i hit 146.1 db in a sealed box in the back of my non dynamated grand am. there not the loudest speaker in the world and i dont claim to have the loudest car in the world. however as far as clarity off bass, and just how clean it sounds, i think its the best SQ sub i have ever heard in my life. i went into a shop to buy a w7. after hearing both the bostons and the jl side by side, i left with the bostons. and i saved $100. also i have never had a problem with the bostons and i have had them for almost 2 years now. they are a awesome sub and if you have never heard them i challenge you too.

as far as amps go, i dont know. i got the boston gt-28, just cause it was the amp made to push my 2 subs. it was kind of a no brianer. you might want to check out Kenwood excelon, and eclipse amps also. not to mention pioneer premier.

i hope this helps you man, and good luck

I have a pair of JL Audio W6s in a band pass config. I have had those since '94 and they are STILL thumpin! Im pushing them with a Fosgate Punch 60. (Bridge Mono)

So JL Audio would definately get my vote!

Well, I would buy an amp that produces the power I need, built by a reputable manufacturer, and has the cheapest price tag. Sound quality is a non issue with amps. A watt is a watt.

Sounds to me you know what you want. JL subs are very nice and pheonix gold stuff is the sh*t. My experiance.....I ran 2 MTX black gold 15's and a Kicker ZR amp and hit 148db in a Isuzu Rodeo.
