By preemptively brainwashing them. This will make it harder for someone else to come alone and brain wash them since they are already brain washed.

Religion will not necessarily protect you from
"brain washing". In fact most religions do in one for m or another, by insisting that you ascribe to certain principals of belief and/or behavior to be part of that religion. The best defense against brain washing is to refuse to accept anyting without checking all the resources yourself. It also helps a good deal to know Jesus personally. But study the Bible itself and don't necessarily take everything that a religion might teach as being true.
Acts 17:11 (New International Version)
11Now the Bereans were of more noble character than the Thessalonians, for they received the message with great eagerness and examined the Scriptures every day to see if what Paul said was true.

KHAEOS,
I'm not sure what kind of brainwashing you mean, but becoming stronger in the word of God is how Christians do it:
2 Timothy 2:15 Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.
And having a great teacher helps:
Ephesians 4:11 And he gave some, apostles; and some, prophets; and some, evangelists; and some, pastors and teachers;
12 For the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ:
So it's not something that we do on our own, but with all the power and resources that are available to us.

Some religions brainwash, and others don't. The best way to ensure you're not getting brainwashed is to think about your personal beliefs, and see if your religion meshes with them. If they don't, then it's not the right religion for you, regardless of what they say.

That oxymoron-like question almost exploded my skull!! Since religion actually brainwashes you, usually since birth, to see life through tunnel vision and a closed mind, it actually protects you from other forms of brainwashing because you're already brainwashed and so not succeptable to further, conflicting indoctrination.

Religion IS brainwashing. They never prove their claims, and they strongly discourage dissent.
