You shouldn't rush him to use the potty. when he is ready he will want to use it. My son says he wants to use to the potty sometimes. He did once pee in it. I was so happy with him. I applauded him and this encouraged him. But he is still vey much in to nappies. He isn't three yet.
Why don't you try potty training pants from mothercare, tell him if he wants to pee or poo he should use it and applaud him. Give him goldstars or something everytime he uses it. and when he gets say ten or twenty he gets a treat.

hiya, i really sympathise with you. My little boy is three and he has been dry for about 6 months now, but it took time. I just let him run around the house with no nappy or pants on, and in the end after messing a few times, he started going on there. he did it by himself, the more i nagged at him he didnt want to know. I just had to remind hijm all the time, every 15 mins or so ask him if he needs to use the potty or toilet and if he does give loads of praise, maybe make a sticker chart! Make him feel like a big boy. I hope this works for you. Goodluck!

You could also try putting Cheerios in the potty and have him aim at them. Both my nephews learned that way it became a game, and then when they did use the potty they got a small treat each time. I do agree don't get upset with him or the process will take longer. Keep repeating the process too, and remind him about 15 to 30 minutes about whether he needs to go. We also rewarded our first child once she was completely potty trained with a big surprise - a marker set and big girl underwear is what we got her. Now our youngest is taking longer to potty train at night time, but I've had to promise her we'll take her to Chucky cheese's once she stops wetting to bed.

have you stopped using diapers and started using pull ups? i would also look for a daycare/nursery that helps with potty training. i have a 23 month old that is in the process of learning how to go potty. if he knows what the potty is for then he is ready.

I found with my 2 boys I just left the potty out and left them with just a t-shirt on and when they start pulling theirselves then just sit them on potty and sing to them or keep the busy until they have been then tell him what a big and clever boy he is. Don't tell him of if he has a accident just say never mind next time we will get it in the right place.

Sorry the wee man is having trouble. As the only problem I've had is working with farm dogs, I could suggest you lay down paper to his potty like our pups.
However his may leave mental problems in later life?
Go on lad you can do it!

Children do not do thing according to schedules. He will potty train when HE is ready. He obviously isn't ready. He may know what the potty is for but hasn't grasped the concept of WHEN he needs to use it. The time frame he learns this is when he is ready to learn it.

Here's what I did...
Bought him a book on going to the potty; we read it EVERY night.
I also did the Cheerio thing and made sure to take him potty about every 30 minutes, and especially before we left to go anywhere.
The truth of the matter is, is that he will "get it" in HIS time, not ours. Unfortunate, but true.

Put a potty seat in the living room so everyone can see. Get thick underwear and just put him in those so that he can feel when he is wet. Make a big deal every time he goes, but dont get mad if there is an accident.

Maybe you should get him one of those seats that go over the big loo - he might see everyone else doing that and wonder why he has to go on a potty. Some kids take to the big loo straight away. Also let him have a go at flushing and watching the loo roll, etc flush away so he knows whats happening.
