Alopecia areata is an autoimmune disease where the body defence cells regard the hair cells as foreign and try to destroy them. In alopecia Universalis the loss of hair/ hairfall is seen on all the body parts. Stress is an aggrevating factor. No medical line of treatment can cure it completely though Oral steroids have been tried in recent cases of alopecia areata universalis. You need to meet a dermatologist to see if any options are still open. Best of Luck

Most of the time it is caused by stress- find out the stressor and remove it.
My neice had alopecia but not a severe case so it was fairly easy to correct. She had to take medication for anxiety for about 3 months and also see a therapist to overcome the root cause of her anxiety. It has never reoccurred.
