Star weighs 17 lbs all winter and now she is only 15 lbs. She still eats a lot and if her dish is empty she finds me to tell me about it. The only difference is that she goes outside in summer but refuses to go out all winter. However, I don't think she goes very far. It is the other cat that goes on walks with the dog and me. I'm just wondering if a drop of 2 lbs is normal for only a slight increase in movement.

I use a regular scale but it's digital and goes to a point...example 120.3 lbs. So I weigh her and me together, then just me and figure out the difference.

Isn't 17 pounds too fat for any cat? I'd be thrilled that she lost 2 pounds. This cat needs some exercise all year around! And try feeding on a schedule. This works well for my 4 cats, who are all active and of a normal weight. By schedule I mean at 7am, 12pm, 5pm. There is always food left in the bowl after each 'meal' but no more is given until the next 'meal' is due. They quit begging after a while and seem to like the arrangement. I inherited these 4 cats after Hurricane Katrina and they were out of control. Now they are peaceful and happy.

I had a cat that would fatten up in the winter and shed all the weight in the summer. She's probably taking off some fat in order to stay cooler. If you are really concerned you could have her checked out by a vet, but it sounds like she could stand to lose some weight. My cat got up to 11 pounds and the vet said not to let her gain any more. She was right at the top of where she should be.

There could be any number of reasons for the kitty losing weight. If there's plenty of signs of her eating and no signs of her vomiting it up later, then chances are she's getting plenty of food. If she's getting a bit older, it could be that it just takes her more energy to do what she already does. A slight increase in movement could cause a fat cat to lose weight too, as it requires more effort.
Just to be sure, take her to your vet and have her checked out. It could be something related to illness that isn't yet observable by you. Talk to your vet about your concerns regarding her, and they'll be more than happy to help you out.

Well, she would have weighed more in the winter and less in the summer because in the colder months cats have more fur and more fat to stay warm. However, in the summer, they lose that extra few pounds of fur and fat. She's fine. If you're still worried, contact your veterinarian.

no nothing is wrong! she may be more active hense the weight loss!
my cat went from 18 lb to 13 lb in less then 6months!
no worries she added most of that back on! but the stairs will help me get her thin again! even if the vet says that she is too old to lose the weight!

cats burn calories quickly, so yes, it's very normal. even walking around outside in the summer vs. sitting around in the winter can be the cause of weight loss. also, depending on what kind of cat you have, it could be affected differently

Cold showers: They not only burn 500 extra calories a day, studies from The New England Journal of Medicine cite the icy water also activates ‘brown fat’ – the excellent type of body fat of which creates body heat, increases metabolic process and burns off naughty white fat.

Time your eating and exercise appropriately. Never eat prior to work out, and wait 30 to 60 minutes after training to guarantee you catch your metabolism in its highest.

People who plan their weekly meals tend to be more successful at losing weight than people that don’t. Plan your dishes to incorporate healthy carbs such as special potato and wholegrain pasta, green vegetables and lean proteins, buy every one of the ingredients in advance and don’t be tempted to eat out or order in.

Use spray oil instead of pouring. One squirt contains one calorie compared to 120 calories from a tablespoon. If you use oil as part of your cooking daily, this small change could lose which you stone over the year.
