It is a bit old fashioned isn't it..."Thou shalt not covet thy neighbours ***" no way not since she had them silicon puppies
put in...(before you ask, they weren't really puppies, tsk!)

What about i-pods, porn, the interweb, teevee, teenage pregnancy, clam smacking, global warming, teabagging, big cars, holidays abroad...

I think the Bible should possible provide guidance on modern life....
If so what are the hot topics we could include.

I don't see why, I mean people nowadays choose what part of the bible to follow and quote that fits their life style. People make religion fit their lifestyle not their lifestyle fit religion.

First let me ask you a question?

Have you actually read the Bible from cover-to-cover - Genesis to Revelation, so that you can speak knowledgeably about it?

I have very Good News for you - the Living Word of God is not in the least bit old fashioned. I repeat - it is NOT in the least bit old fashioned. It is kind of like looking at a picture of a person who was looking directly at the camera lens - God's Word will look right at you.

Back in the 1970s I was a feminist and thought I could re-write the Bible taking out all of the "sexist" terminology. I didn't finally get around to actually reading the Bible from cover-to-cover until 1992 when my long term marriage was ending and things were very bad at work.

After I got laid off I finally had the time to read. The Bible was so GOOD I couldn't put it down and ended up finishing it in 90 days. Reading it was the best thing I've ever done in my life. What a joke to think I could ever have re-written that.

The first time I read the Bible I used the Living Bible translation (a paraphrase) - I figured I needed all of the help I could get. But in the years since 1992 I've read it from cover-to-cover nearly every year, using the New International Version (NIV) which is my favorite version; as well as The New King James Version and The New Century Version.

I did not change the Bible but God's Living Word sure did change me! It completely cured my spiritual diabetes.

I suggest that you read a Bible like The Daily Walk Bible. It leads you through the material in 1 year and it gives just enough background and insight into each day's reading.

i'm sure some of those hotties back in the day had particularly racy scarves to cover their hair with.

and yeah, I think the Latter Day Saints guys did try to add an updated book to the Bible, but mainstream Christians don't buy into it mostly.

You might get a cool youth leader to share the gospel about teabagging...is it okay as long as we're married?

BTW---getting to hump and teabag is probably not the best reason to get married, but I digress...

And Mother Mary was probably a teenager when she gave birth.

If the Bible ever was something to live by, then I guess some of the highlights are still valid. As for the crazy stuff that is not included in the old Book, well I guess we gotta look inside ourselves to see if we can figure out what's ok and what's not.

I'm back to reading Proverbs and Psalms. There is enough info on a Creator, Wisdom, life, resisting my buddies wife, making money, working, raising kids, engaging with people, and other stuff to keep me on a growth plan for years.

The way I look at it, if a creator exists, then he creates for a reason, by definition. Thus, each human being has a created potential and purpose for life. Whether to be a teacher, a movie star, a parent, a fast food cook, or businessman. Whatever.

The new testament always left me feeling like I had to be like Jesus, and focused on holiness, and being a priest, elder, pastor, rather than struggling with life and being upright. My ideal man in the Bible was David, that lying, womanizing, murdering, power hungry, drinking, dancing, strong, singing, writing, worshiping type of guy. God liked him too.

I do not think you can update the bible, but it is time to provide a new interpretation of the Bible and guidance for living, much like you said.

I personally do not think that the bible should be updated. What should be updated is our outlook on life. The things in the bible were not meant to satisfy our cravings or satisfy the things that we do. You cannot be sacastic when it comes to God. I feel sorry for your soul. The bible has accounts of everything in there. If you read it, but it seems to me that you want to rewrite the book, so that it can say what you want it to say. How can you rewrite something that is holy and tarnish it with that which is not holy at all and I can tell that by the choice of examples you said. It sounds funny to the hearers but it is not funny. God doesn't like to be played with and oneday I hope you understand that. To erase this book would be just like you erased him ever coming and dying for our sins, the very reason why we serve him, but I would not expect you to understand since things like coveting doesn't even matter to you. Your version of the bible would probably be something like the opposite of the original bible that is now. It will be more satanic than Godly.

Another thing if seeing someone boobs mean alot to your and pornography than the bible is not what you should be trying to change, you should be trying to change your way of thinking and your way of life. but that's up to you we all are going to have to give an account for the sins that we committ in this body. Get it together please I don't know how old your are but that is kind of immature.

Is it time to update the questioners here?

Sure, be glad to. Dude, God knew about i-pods, porn, the interweb, teevee, teenage pregnancy, clam smacking, global warming, teabagging, big cars, holidays abroad...(and He's not impressed by them) WAY before you were ever born, or even thought about.

The Word of God (KJV) will be here (and in heaven) long AFTER
you and I are gone!

Your talking about the Ten Commandments and that's something that can't be changed or updated. It's the rules that Roman Catholics should and some do follow. Just because SOME people go against them doesn't mean they should be changed. If you want to covet your neighbors wife because she has silicone implants that's your perogative. I'm sure not every man that sees her does. There are people who have morals. Look inside the doors of a church on a Saturday or Sunday morning....

Ichi,
"Is it time to update the Bible?"
No. It doesn't need updating.

"I think the Bible should possible provide guidance on modern life...."
It sounds like you either don't take to learning it seriously, or that you were exposed to some pretty bad sources, including a lack of a pastor who was gifted in teaching it. Otherwise, you would not be asking the question.

Some pastors attempt to bring in teen pregnancy and breast implants as topics for Biblical exegesis, they are not preaching the Bible properly, though. They have to take the Bible out of context if they attempt it.

Teen pregnancy and breast implants have their own rewards and negative issues, and they should be looked at in that light. The same goes for abortion. The negative impact of abortion speaks for itself.

Perhaps your cavalier attitude towards altering the Bible speaks for itself.

I'm not 100% sure of what all those things are you're naming, and I'm pretty sure I don't want to know. Technology might change, but people don't change. The things people are tempted by today are the same things that tempted people centuries ago: the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life (1 John 2:16). The cure hasn't changed either: obedience to the will of God (Matthew 7:21; Romans 6:16).

Good question.....Ichi is right...people wot thump bibles spout crap without actually reading the question....I have read the bibble from cover to cover many times and nowhere......really.......does it mention any of the things in the question........Jesus did not wander through the desert for 40 days and 40 nights listening to his ipod.....doesn't mention that Adam teabagged Eve.....and Burger King removes the need for the feeding of the 5,000......Solomon no longer needs to tie his *** to a tree and walk to Jerusalem cos he can get easyJet....or Ryanair if he's feeling really cheap.......Joseph 's amazing technicolor dream coat would today be made in a Bangkok sweatshop and then sold in Gap.......so all those crappy stories need re-writing to be relevant....and I always thought they were actual puppies
