NEW YORK - "I was SHOCKED to see a giant breast on the cover of your magazine," one person wrote. "I immediately turned the magazine face down," wrote another. "Gross," said a third."
A poll of 4000 readers said 25% were outraged. WHAT??

i read a post on mothering.com, and the author's signature referred to breastfeeding:

"If breastfeeding in public makes people uneasy because the breasts are considered sexual than bottle-feeding must be the equivalent of whipping out a dildo."

i still laugh every time i read it, because that's how i felt when nursing my babies. i'm not an activist by any stretch of the imagination, but i do get really irritated by such stupidity. if grown adult's sensitivities are assaulted by such a natural act, perhaps they need to look at their own ridiculous hangups. i could not believe the puritanical nonsense too many women had in that article when i read it yesterday. i had to share it with my husband, who is a converted pro-breastfeeding daddy now, too.

how can the natural design be wrong?!?

I personally recieved this issue in the mail a few weeks ago, and I thought nothing of it! Everyone and their brother seems to be so facinated by boobs these days, but they think it's "gross" when they are used for their rightful purpose! Completely immature!

And who said "Take it to the restroom" Uh hello, I don't want to sit on a toilet and breastfeed, do you?

"Feed the baby before you go out"...obviously this person doesnt' have children....lol. Newborns eat almost every 2 hours. And sometimes they are hungry again an hour after they last ate. Get a clue dude.

And for the mothers who said that is "not appropriate, that they would have to explain it to their children, and that's not fair." Ummmm....kids ask questions about everything they see. Is breastfeeding wrong? NO absolutely not! So why would you be ashamed to explain this to your child? You must have some serious insecurities! Is it "not fair" to explain when your child asks "Why is that lady so fat?" or "Why does that old man have tubes in his nose?" Kids will be kids, and they have to learn. Come on people.....and besides, isnt' it the NIPPLE that isn't supposed to be shown....I didn't see any nipple on that cover! You can see boobs on just about any channel nowadays..just no nipple.

OH COME ON! Don't get me started here. TOO late......sigh. First of all, breastfeeding is SO vital to a healthy child that it's not even funny.
Second, that picture was FINE. No nipples, a beautiful and precious photo.
Third, When *I* nursed all three of my babies, I was able to do it so discreetly that no one knew what was happening. They'd try to pet the baby and I'd have to TELL them the baby is nursing. I did this by pulling down the nursing bra (became an automatic one-handed move), and keeping my T-shirt down. For even more cover, I slung a cloth diaper over my shoulder, lightly covering the baby's head. No prob. Some women ARE out there with the titties. Whatever. At least their babies will get the physical contact, the proper sucking to develop their mouths, and the natural immunities they need for a healthy start on this cancer-ridden planet.
SHEESH.

i'm 32 weeks pregnant with my first, and that i'm making plans on breastfeeding... a minimum of, i am going to target. :-) there replaced right into a narrative on the info the following regionally some weeks in the past about a lady who replaced into breastfeeding her baby in a eating position, and the owner actual requested her to leave. It led to a huge fuss from both area... besides, i imagine that, as long as you're doing it discreetly, there is not any difficulty. I advise, grab a undemanding blanket and cover your self, truly than merely letting the ladies folk draw close out, you recognize? yet i don't believe of it truly is a difficulty in any respect, so long because the female is smooth with it. in my opinion, i imagine that if there's a separate room available (some places have nursing mom's rooms, or something like that), i could be utilizing it... yet when that is no longer a probability, i could merely grab a blanket, i imagine.

I'm good with a mother giving food to her baby by breast. If the public doesn't want to see that then look away. It's a natural thing and there isn't always a place to stop and feed. I bet if a group of people were to pick whether they wanted to 1/2 way see a mother breastfeeding or listen to a screaming baby, I'd bet they'd choice to look the other direction!!!

I think it is innocent and natural. If others don't like it, they should just look away. There are so many products to shield the breast, sometimes I get the idea that some women just don't care and like to shock or show off, but anywho, people should just look away if it bothers them in any way. Breasts are for breastfeeding. Everything else is just an extra benefit. 25% of people usually serves as a good quotient for the part of the population fairly deemed idiots.

Maybe I live a part of the country where moms are particularly skilled, but I never see moms "whipping it out" in full view. I see women using as much discretion as they can. They use blankets, sweaters, specially designed coverings, whatever.

It's not always possible to use a restroom, or a car, or "make sure the baby is fed before you leave."

People got used to seeing naked pregnant bellies after Demi Moore bared hers. Now you see them all over--in magazines and even in public.

I only hope that people will get used to this. Or if it still bothers them, they can look away.

When I use to breastfeed my daughter I was weird about doing it in public. But there's nothing you can really do when your baby is hungry and there's no private place to go. So you just gotta do what you gotta do.
As for this damn magazine issue, I receive it and I had no problem with it. Its natural.
People should be more worried about other things in this world instead of a baby eating from its mother's breast!

I think it is sweet. Nothing is wrong with breast feeding in public. Now I will say that I wouldn't show that much breast unless I was at home or with people I really know. But, to nurse is public is very natural and healthy. And no I am not offended. Very Sweet. Can't wait to do it again in 4 months.

I am a mother of 3 and one on the way. I think it's grose when a woman breastfeeds in public! They can pump and bottle feed for when they are on the go. There is no reason why anyone including children have to sit there and feel uncomfortable because a woman has her breast hanging out with a baby or toddler sucking on it. It makes young kids question why they are doing that etc and that is not fair, to have to answer your 5 yr old because someone feels like it should be a public affair.
