look, i've been answering both scientific and religious questions, and i am getting really tired of people quoting scriptures and bible exerpts as "scientific fact." it's not fact, it's not scientific. it's a book of stories written to help teach you morals.

no, the bible is not proof that god exists. that's cyclical reasoning, and a sure sign that you don't know how to think. you can't say "it's proof because it says so here." that argument wouldn't even hold up in a high-school debate.

Religious people: stop claiming that everything is made by god. it's not. MAN harnessed electricity. MAN created medicine. MAN learned to reason. without the accomplishments of people willing to think outside of religion, we would not be where we are today. stop trying to cram your BELIEFS down the rest of our necks. you are slowing down the progress of society.

Science people: stop pissing off the religious people. as long as they don't try to impose their beliefs on others, we'll all be fine.

Response to Dani: if your “proof” requires faith, it’s not proof.

Response to Bigtoe: you’ve obviously never heard of the Spanish inquisition. Religion and science don’t go together. Science starts off with observation and ends in conclusion. Religion starts off with conclusion, and attempts to find supporting observation.

Response to Terri: this is my first question, and it’s really more of a lecture. No, evolution did not give man the ability to accomplish his feats. Learning and reason allowed him to do them. As for your beliefs, as long as you understand that they are beliefs, and not fact, then that is fine. As for the research conclusions you mentioned, I have not heard anything about this, and I’m a physicist. In fact, your very statement leads me to restate: Religion starts off with conclusion, and attempts to find supporting observation. That is not science.

Yay! At least there is one other person who realizes that the Christian Bible isn't evidence for anything! I can't quote older religious text, like scrolls from ancient Egypt, and say that it is "fact." Those texts are much older, and also pertain to religion, but it doesn't mean that the Sun walks across the Sky!

Also, when they rip their "evidence" out of context, I find that even worse!

If it irritates you so much, then why continue to ask questions? Hon, if you're mind is made up, it's made up. The problem I have with your reasoning is where did man's ability to do the things you mentioned come from. Evolution does not answer that question. That's all I'm saying, it just leaves so many unanswered questions. And for the record, I've never used scripture as scientfic fact. I know there are some Christians that do, and I agree it doesn't hold up to the standards you are talking about.
Do I believe the Bible? Yes. Do I believe God exists? Yes.
What I've been saying is there is an increasing amount of scientific research that points to design, and I say that without using scripture.
Here's my stance. the Bible says God created the heavens and the earth. I believe that, by faith. It is my faith, my religion, if you will. I would continue to believe that without a single shred of evidence, and I know that's where you have a problem with me. that's ok, you don't have to agree with me. I don't get bent over that and I sleep just fine.
but, here's the rub: there is more and more research every day that is pointing to a singularity of origin for the universe, meaning it began by something or someone that had to be outside our physical laws as we know them. Had to. There is also more and more research everyday that points to the complexity of all we see and not being possible by random selection or chance.
I'm not saying the Bible is scientific evidence, I'm saying science is moving closer to backing up what the Bible says about the origin of the universe. That's it, nothing more, nothing less.
And I do not claim everything is made by God. My claim is God created the heavens and the earth and has given us the ability to create man made things.
And no one is pissing me off. This debate is actually quite fun, when it is kept clean and honest. I do not like the stereotyping and the name calling, but i do like to see people stand up for what they believe in and work hard to present a clean case, no matter what it is. but leave the playground mentality to the kiddos.

Thanks for your feelings man. Since you are bright enough to be able to completely dismiss thousands of years of people believing in God as the creator of all things, you must have all the answers.

I am a Christian, but I do not read the Bible as a science book. Even though you separate the two as being different, God created the world, therefore he created science. Since that is true, I don't care how God created the world. You are also right in saying that the Bible cannot prove God exists. No one can prove it.

Please don't be as closed minded as you claim "religious" people to be. Understand that even scientists can't explain it all, and will often point to a greater power holding millions of galaxies together.

I say let all the religion of the world flourish in the name of God for all the good it has done for mankind and keep an open mind to scientific facts, for that also makes the world go on.
Religion and Science can go together if we try to see the bigger picture instead of being so naive.

I'm amazed! I didn't realize that God, is not the creator, Duh!
And scientifically speaking, you my friend are chemically imbalanced, or a bad by-product of your own mind! By the
way we christians aren't slowing anything down with our beliefs.
And sorry yu are so psycho of science. And you really shouldn't
be bashing God. But that's what you want to do, go for it, You
are securing your fate.

Good arguements...I'd add that the questions need to be more generic and not mention any specific denomination by name...that also spurs on arguement rather than promoting the serious debate. PEACE1

True, but I have found historical proof that proves that Jesus was who he said he was, and he said that God is real, he created the world, etc etc. Its so obvious, but it requires faith :)
