The best thing before sliced bread was fire because if sliced bread is now the best thing it never would have existed if no one had figured fire out since they would have needed it to cook the bread.
Oh ya, the rest of the swimmers wouldn't dire they'd either pretend to be because they'd be following the other one or they'd try to save the other swimmer.
