My Great Aunt had a Beagle named Bagel (about 10 years ago). So you can look at it either way -- it's perfectly acceptable, but not entirely original!
Beagles are wonderful dogs, but they have a tendency to follow their noses (as they were bred to do) and wander off. They should have a fenced-in yard and not be allowed to run loose without plenty of obedience training.
Check this link for lots of info on Beagles:

Good luck!

Beagles make great pets! We've had beagles for years, and just got another pair one year ago. They take training, patience and lots of time, but with persistence, you'll have a fantastic family pet. Beagles will always follow their noses, so they need to have a confined space to do their running and still keep out of trouble. Beagles are also big on eating EVERYTHING, so you'll need to keep an eye on them. Our beagles are working dogs, have a sweet temperament, and do NOT bark when they're not supposed to. You might want to check out some of the magazines that are specifically for beagle owners - American Beagler is a good one. As for the name.......just think about how you'll feel when you have to wander the neighborhood or woods yelling that name.......if it doesn't make you feel silly, who cares???

I thought I was the only one who wanted a beagle named Bagel!
If you have room to run and consider that beagles like to talk and they are loud, then Bagel will have a good home.

ha haha, I love that idea... but then again I am a dork!
I was playing a game with my sister's boyfriend a few years back and I misspelled bagel and wrote beagle by mistake... he still teases me saying that I must eat beagles for breakfast.

You could call her 'Bailey' and introduce her as 'This is my beagle, Bailey'...!! lol
Any dog can be a good pet if you spend a lot of time with it, train it, play with it and keep it well-groomed. Dogs can be a handful if left alone all day, not trained well or kept clean.
A beagle is a great breed...they are generally pretty calm and can be very smart.

I like the name, but please research the breed first. There is also a site online that allows you to choose the different characteristics you'd like in a pet dog and they match you with a breed. It's a cool idea, I thought. I have a beagle-boxer mix I'm trying to re-home, if you're interested.
Check out my 1st source for Beagle Breed info. & breeder, my 2nd & 3rd sources to be matched with a breed. The last link is my ad.

My four year old son named his grandma's beagle Bagel. So I guess it makes you a 4 year old.

Beagles are EXCELLENT pets! Smart and loyal, gentle and playful. They are, however, diggers and chewers...Be prepared!
And don't fret what others think of the name you choose...I think Bagel is cute! I've had dogs named Garbage, Jake, Larry, Boogers, Sugars, Mannie, Dully, Kuku, Bigger, Toadie, Belia, Mike.
