Are all pentax lenses compatible with the k100d and k110d? I'm new to digital photography, I've been a canon AE-1 user my whole life. If I were to put an older lens on one of the new dSLR's what kind of functionality would I lose? I'm assuming aperture on the new cameras is controlled by the LCD on the body instead of the aperture ring, but if I put a lens with an aperture ring on a new pentax will I be using the LCD screen or the ring to control aperture? Any other information I could get on Pentax lenses would be great also.

All Pentax lenses are compatible with the K100D and K110D. However, the way in which older lenses support metering is different.

For older lenses that have an A setting on the aperture ring, you can leave the setting on A and control the aperture via the LCD/Camera.

For lenses without an A setting the metering operation is a little bit more involved. You still get metering and the camera can still set the right exposure for you, but you need to take a few extra steps. See the first link below for details on how older lenses work.

The second link below is a great resource for information about K-mount lenses (both those with "A" settings and those without). Note that it doesn't cover screw-mount Pentax lenses.

The k100/110 will take a truckload of old Pentax lenses. Here the scoop from Pentax users:
