From what I understand they do work, but knot without a price. The thing that usually makes and energy drink do its thing (other than sugar and caffeine of course) is something called Taurine. Taurine, from what I understand, is kind of like liquid adrenaline. Adrenaline, when produced by the body, can give you super human strength, speed, etc. The drawback is that you crash harder than sugar or caffeine. Also taurine is said to have damaging effects on your heart if taken too much, so be careful. Give me a sweet tea anytime!!

Energy drinks usually contain something like caffine (not sure what it's called) to give you a boost of energy for a limited period of time, but it tends to make your system crash after a while and you feel much more tired. Foods that also do this are banana's, fish.
But energy drinks do wotk in the short term.

Yes they do work, water is just pure water (plus the 100ds of chemicals they put in it and that leak into it) but energy drinks consit of salt, something something, and something something else, ( go to www.cclub.editboard.com to see exactly how they work ) yeah, but the energy drinks hydrate the body and help it recover, so yes it does work.

usually contain caffine. but if your body is used to high amounts of caffine then the affects are marginal. energy drinks also have other B vitamins and good stuff.

personally i think if you get enough rest and you know how to handle stress then you will have energy to tackle most tasks without loading up on energy drinks.
