Since God gave humans free will to sin, and humans by nature are sinners, it should be clear to god that we all will sin. Its like some twisted power trip making us appologize and kowtow to him for something he knows we cant help doing!
Like he strands us on a desert island with a glass of water and a sandwich and says you can eat and drink these, but its a sin. So if you eat and drink so to stay alive, you are a sinner and must beg me to forgive you. He gives us something he KNOWS we'll do, calls it bad anyway, then makes us choose whether or not we should beg him to let us off the hook. Wierd.

no, we can't help doing it. Eventually we will all commit some sin, regardless of choice. God MADE humans sinners!
........
...unless we have more power than God! OK, yes! Now I see you're point!

"Sins" that cause no harm to anyone (including oneself) aren't wrong; they're just silly superstitious rules that mean nothing.
"Sins" that hurt someone are wrong, but the wrong that people do is done because of ignorance, because of the lack of experience or wisdom to understand why it's wrong. Not because of some boog-a-boo 'Satan' character or superstitions about 'demons' or other nonsense. Wrong is always done out of IGNORANCE.
The only way a person could possibly rectify a wrongdoing is to learn that what he did was wrong, that it hurt someone -- to learn that so well that he never does that particular "sin" again. This is how karma works.
Concerning the person who "sins", the mistakes he made can't be simply written off or "forgiven" because he fears punishment. Obedience out of fear - to 'God' or one's parents or commanding officer - is just replacing one form of ignorance with another. The purpose of life is to interact with others, to learn the differences between right and wrong, good and bad, logic and nonsense.

God didn't make humans sinners, Satan opened the door and Woman bought into it and then got Man to consider it also. Both did it by free will, but it wasn't God showing them this path.
Let's replace God and Sin and Satan with something else. A 14 year old sees three people they've come across in school on the corner smoking cigarettes and stops to talk with them. One offer him a Marlborough.
Free will.
A 14 year old goes to a party at friends and their parents aren't around and someone offers them a Mickey's Hard Lemonade.
Free will.
A 14 year old boy at the party is talking with a girl who just chatters on and tells him she's on Ecstasy and it's great, especially for sex and offers him some -- both Ecsatcy and sex.
Free will.
Your SPOUSE and you have a major fight over something and don't speak for a few days. One of you stops at a bar and has a few drinks and talks with a few people. After a while a sexual proposition is made.
Free will.
Do you want him to confess and tell you? He might confess and tell God and ask for forgiveness and do better in the future.
If that was YOUR HUSBAND and he DID HER without a rubber, how forgiving would you be? How forgiving should God be?
And what if he caught a disease, say Herpes, which can be transmitted by simple hugging and footsies in shorts.
Crime and punishment?
If humans are by nature sinful then you're already expecting your husband to cheat. You're already expecting your kids to do drugs, run wild and have fun.
If GOD made us this way, then it's predestined!
No free will.
If you have kids and a husband, better give it all some thought.
The idea is not to sin. To resist temptation. Satan did it once and Satan does it all the time.
And when a kid goes from cigs, to Mickey's to Pot, to Ecstasy, to Crack, to mainlining, they finally made it to hell.
And it's all wonderful and it's all nice.
Good or Evil.

Interesting way to look at it. But God didn't give us free will to sin. Our free will is the ability to make a choice all on our own. We have the choice to sin, or not.
The other thing is that there are no sins that keep us alive. I know you were only using food and water as an example, but that's extreme. No one will die if they never have pre marital sex or never tell a lie....
You are correct in saying that God knows we will sin, that's why if you ask for forgiveness, it is given. He know we cannot be sinless, not because that is how he made us, but because of the choices we make.... due to all that free will you mentioned.

Drinking water and eating bread does not harm a person sin is something that causes harm to other people, so if you don't feel remorseful for the wrong you do then you don't care if you hurt people or even your family. The worldly things like sin are of the devil and not Godly the Bible says all things are given by God man corrupts and abuses them. God don't give rape and child molestation, man does these things. That is were free will comes in. If it makes you feel guilty then you should ask for forgiveness, but if you don't feel guilty don't ask.

Sins don't "have" to be forgiven. When you die, if you are not forgiven of your sins, you will simply go to hell. If you want to go to heaven then yes you do "need" your sins forgiven. That is because God is perfect and cannot have sin in heaven with him. He is also the perfect judge and anyone who has not had thier sins forgiven is still gilty of them and would not be alowed in a perfcet place(heaven). If you are wondering how to have your sins forgiven, I guess it's your lucky day! All you have to do is pray to God and ask him to forgive you of your sin. If you meant it then God will work in your life and bring you closer to him. (And the reason he mad us able to sin is so that we would need him and therefore have a personal relationship with him. Also-if there was no sin we would never repent and when we repent of our sins it brings glory to God)
God bless
P.S. the Desert example is interesting but there is one thing that most people don't realize, and that is that if we didn't sin, life would be so much better. example-if someone lusts as a teen-ager and feels pleasure they may like it but will end up getting married one day and not get to enjoy some of the things God gave us that so many people never get to experience. so you see, in the long run, if you follow God's example he left for us then you won't regret it. And Remember, it's never to late!!(please e-mail me, I would love to talk with anyone who is interested to hear what I have to tell about God!!!)(One last thing: we don't Need to sin but you implied that we need to sin)

God Gave us Free will ...but not to Sin.
Sinning is misuse of Free Will.
Just as Your mother may give you a Knife to help in Cooking. but if you think that Knife is only meant for Killing others then its your insanity.
Just as Government made laws for Proper Governance, But there will be some thieves who will think that every law is made to be Broken!!
Not Every Soul Misuses their Freedom. Not every one in the City goes to Jail.. There are many many more souls who live eternally in Kingdom of God with unimaginable Freedom, and never misuse their freedom or Sin.

The actual meaning of sin is 'missing the mark'.
Some religions have used sin and the punishment (Hell) to 'control the masses'.
A virgin used to mean 'unmarried', not sexually untouched. The churches used this definition to describe a miracle.
I consider myself less religious and more spiritual. I feel more 'at home' with Gnostic faith because it is without Dogma. Gnostic is not to be confused with Agnostic. Gnostic's believe in a loving God.... that all people & things, including cuss words, are of God. Any Gnostic writings were removed from the Bible because they did not support the 'Fear of God', 'Sinners go to Hell' theory.
The whole 'Fear of God' never resonated as truth to me because fear and love are opposites. Who do you know that loves what they fear?
P.S. Jesus was a man, not be confused with God, our creator. Jesus was his child, like we all are. I won't take anything away from Jesus, because we should all want to be more like him. He was an example of a true humanitarian. He was a great man who did great things for people and loved everyone because they are all of God & our brothers and sisters of humanity.

Sins need to be forgiven in order to go to heaven because there is no sin in heaven. We are all born sinners, but everyone has the option of believing, and God is not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.
He could have made us robotic, perfect little beings, but He wanted us to worship Him out of our own choice, not because it's programed into us.
Also, sin cannot be likened to food & water; we don't have to sin in order to stay alive. But we do have to put our faith in God in order to be cleansed from sin. Using a similar desert island illustration, lets say mud is sin and water is God's grace. The mud on the island looks really appealing because it's hot out. So you splash about in the mud. Then you sit on the beach and it gets hot out and the mud dries and cracks and feels icky. It's up to you to go wash off in the water. No one will make you wash off; it's up to you.

Think before you speak!
We have laws here in America that keeps civilization from going into chaos. We have free will also. If we break the law there are consequences. We face the judge for judgment and sentencing.
Why should it be any different in the spiritual realm? We have free will we have laws we will face the judge for all the laws we have broken. That is why we confess then to receive forgiveness.
Pretty simple.

The problem in your logic is, we can help doing it. Nobody forces you to sin; you make the choice.
God never wanted anybody to sin, and He never gave a command that we couldn't follow. He would be entirely within His right to strike us down at that moment - but He doesn't, because He loves us enough to give us another chance.
If you don't want to take it, He won't make you, but you'll regret it later.
