Its a myth that we are close. America will only look after its own first. Unlike the UK who looks after everyone else before its own.

You can!

Its really quite simple. Everyone needs a sponsor (in my case I married an American citizen). Depending on the reason you go to America you need a different type of visa, which means the type of sponsor will be different. For example: study (college can sponsor you), marriage (spouse), Work, etc, etc. If you look at the uscis.gov website you should be able to find all the information you need. However, I will warn you that although it is incredibly easy in terms of rules to get into America (All we needed was for my husband to be earning $16000 a year (approx £4.37 an hour), it is a nightmare in terms of paperwork. Depending on where your sponsor is depends on which office you apply to (One in Texas, one in Chicago and one in Vermont). You send the petition to that office which takes anywhre between 5-8 months, and all that does is clarify if your sponsor is eligible to sponsor you. After they send that back you fill in some more forms, which you fill in and send to chicago. They will send your file to London and you will be sent yet more forms to fill in and have to go for a medical exam (basically to make sure you haven't got Clap (or other STD's for that matter)). If everything is ok you will get your visa. The whole process takes about a year.

Having said all that, I went to the US for two years with my husband and hated every minute of it. We have now come back to Scotland. Healthcare is incredibly expensive and you have to work 52 weeks before you get a week off, rather than us where we get 5 weeks in our first year. The USA is ok but the grass isnt necessarily any greener.

If you are intent on emigrating be warned: every time you phone you will get a different answer, so just make sure you know exactly what you want to ask before you call and make it so they only have to give you simple yes and no answers to your questions...

Hope this helps. Y'all have a nice day now ya hear me...

You know, an EU style program between the 'English descended' countries might have worked, but you are already in one, and we aren't quite as close with all of your new fellows. This has already come up because we don't give them all visa waiver agreements as we do England for tourist visas.

Because USA is not as stupid as the other European counties!
They allow British people to go there, but Britons protests against European citizens to come to UK!
Why UK does not allowed US citizens to have the same rights as Europeans then?

Blair is American's puppet, not the other way 'round. Britain has got precious little for all its soldiers' lives lost. And for selling off its assets cheaply to American multinationals.

I am Canadian. If your Queen is all over our money, why can't I go live in England with no problems? Government.

because they are two distinct states and as such you cannot live there without americas permission. it would be different if america weren't indipendent but it is.
