The origins of this term are Scottish, and refer to supporters of the National Covenant, and the Solemn League and Covenant, or "Covenanters", largely Lowland Presbyterians, many of whom fled Scotland for Ulster (Northern Ireland), during persecutions by the British Crown. Covenanters of the 1600's signed documents in their own blood, refusing to accept the Church of England as the official state church.
Many Ulster-Scottish settlers, (especially in the South), were Presbyterian, and the term applied to them, and then their Southern descendants.
An early example, from 1830, has an author noting that "redneck" was a name bestowed upon the Presbyterians.
It makes you wonder if the originators of all the"redneck" jokes are aware of the term's origins?

Rednecks were called that because they worked in the fields or outside all day and would get sunburns on the neck, thus a redneck. Now it means a person of low intelligence, mostly in the south. White trash like.

rednecks are not from the counrty there everywhere people that dont have there noise suck so far up in the air and layed back enjoys life and wouldnt think twice about telling someone what they thinking redhead is just a redhead

People say rednecks will frequently marry members of their own family, such as a sibling. And have mutant kids.
I don't believe there are really people like that.

a redhead is someone who has red hair.
a redneck is someone from the south who is like a hillbilly i guess you could say. normally they like country music, lots of beer, and are wering overalls.
