I agree with Seneca's quote.
I think many people are numb and bored so hedonism seems like a good choice to them, it leads to further emptiness anyway.

Instant gratification ("hedonism") is profitable and businesses make money off of it.
... imagine what would happen to the credit card companies if all of a sudden people started paying them off every month!!
