Why don't Americans eat more lamb?

It's lush.

Its greasy? Greasy? And Americans have been told that animal fats are bad for their health?
Hello? And MacGonads? Burger Queen? Wimpee? Oh, sorry, that's just gold old USA pure good-for-the-heart prime beef.

Not as tasty as other meats. It has relatively high fat content, and fat means flavour.
You don't have to eat a whole one at each meal, so it doesn't work out so expensive.
Thanks for the answers, but I'm pulling the plug already!

too expensive here.
When I was in the UK, it was cheap and common on our table.
Here, we only can get Austrailian lamb - way too expensive!

I personally prefer beef, pork, chicken... pretty much anything instead of lamb. Lamb tastes like dirt to me. Maybe I'd feel differently if I had some mint jelly... But anyways, lamb is also not as advertised here as other meats.

Because lambs are babies. Only an uncivilized person would eat a baby. The least you can do is let your food grow up first! :)

On the serious note, I have tried it. I didn't like the taste. I don't know what it is about it, but it does not compare to a good sirloin steak.

Dear David R,

We have been a pork, beef, and chicken society for a long time. Though we have sheep / lamb here, it's not nearly as popular, except around holidays. I don't know precisely why, but I suspect it's something to do with our early agriculture.

I think they are prejudiced against lamb because in the cowboy days they didn't like the smell of the sheepherders and the sheep crop the grass much lower thus spoiling it for cattle grazing!

It tends to be expensive here, and it's more common to eat it around the Easter Holiday. Americans tend to eat more beef, chicken and pork because they're more commonly raised in the U.S. and Canada.

It's greasy, and Americans have been told over and over again that animals fats cause heart disease.

United States usually eat beef, chicken, and pork because it is less expensive here.

I eat it once in a while, it is okay but not as tasty as other meats. And when I do eat it, it has to be with mint sauce.

It's more expensive here than a lot of other places, we raise way more cows, pigs, and chickens than we do sheep, which makes all their meats a little more affordable.

Just not predominate in our cultural back ground. It is in my local grocery stores but to be honest wouldn't even know how to go about cooking it, just easier through a steak on BBQ ;-)
