Why are men in public toilets careful about closing the door behind them when they are peeing in the toilets but not at all embarrassed/anxious about using the urinals?

because the door on the stall smacks you in the rear if you dont close and latch it. also some guys get stage fright

The first answer was really the best. If you're peeing in a toilet (and standing) then there is a chance someone who needs to use the toilet will not see you and will open the door, smacking you in the backside and causing you to make a mess on yourself, the toilet, etc. But in a urinal, there's no danger of that happening.
Though, some urinals are totally different than others and can range in levels of privacy. There are those that have a wall between them and then there are those like at a ballpark, where it is literally one huge stainless steel piss trough for 20-30 people at once.
Varying levels of modesty will push some people to use the toilet (and shut the door) while others don't care about possibly exposing themselves to other men.

When you use a urinal you are not getting anything exposed to public view.
This is not the case for a toilet. One can see someones penis, one could see one defecating and one could observe someone in the act of wiping themself. Some people need to check the toilet paper to be sure that there is no more poo to wipe.
If you think about - men are a bit more modest than women. We don't all have to go to the bathroom together like women do.

You answered your own question. The men peeing in the stalls are what is called pee shy. That is why they are peeing a stall and not at the urinals. They might have a small penis or just do not feel comfortable peeing in front of someone.

I guess it because they not having a pee when they go into the toilets??!! You know what they're like in the urinals they all think they're the 'biggest' and want to show off.

Some men don't like peeing in urinals at all.
If you are having a pee in the cubical you don't want someone to burst in.

I don't close the stall doors at all. It's not like I have something the guys in there have never seen before.

i like to tinkle in private, plus most fellas given the chance would opt for a cubicle in a bar, drunks have a nasty habit of missing the urinal and you end up making a mess of your hush puppies.
