Safe mode, etc. I select Safe Mode, hit enter and then this Windows Protection error comes on black screen:
'while initializing device VK'
The blinker is after it and hitting enter does nothing. I saw on MS site it could be a bad keyboard but trying new keyboard does nothing. I don't want to lose very important files in the computer. What should i do?

Try a repair install of Windows, you won't lose any data, but might lose some settings.

This is a Win9x problem...

Go back to a good copy of the registry.

Toggle F8 ( when , verifying DMI pool message comes on ) or Press Ctrl during bootup , depends on your computer .

Select , Safe mode Command prompt

After the C prompt , type , scanreg /restore

Follow the prompts and select a registry dated prior to the problems .

Best Wishes and have fun but be safe.

reboot the machine and get out of safe mode. Safe mode allows you to login with certain restrictions. If you reboot and login again it should be fine. You can also go back into your setting and chose to go back to a certain date on your computer. It will remove anything you have added in the past couple of days that may be causing the error

It should be there and option to start in the last good known configuration. I would select that if that does not work then I would go for a system restore and hope you have created a system restore point in the very recent time so you don't have to lose a hole lot of information.

You have some bad hardware possibly your motherboard. Get an expert to check it. A bad motherboard will often cause keys not to function. I do not know the age or type of motherboard or CPU you have, though. I do not think you will lose your files.
