I don't smoke, but I was reading a lot about it recently, trying to help my mom quit.
I've read a few times that Wellbutrin can be used. You don't take it like you would for depression, though. There is a specific way to take it. I'm going to grab the book I have it in
"You: The Owner's Manual", by Dr. Mehmet Oz and Dr. Michael Roizen.
Okay, here it is (I'm copying out of the book from their "Smoking Cessation Plan"):
- ask doctor for prescriptions for Wellbutrin, 100 mg tablets, and nicotine patches
- take one Wellbutrin per day (in the morning) for 2 days before you actually stop smoking
- on your actual stop smoking day, begin wearing the nicotine patch
- put a new patch on each day.
- for the first 60-90 days of no smoking, take one Wellbutrin in the morning AND one in the evening each day.
- wean yourself gradually off the Wellbutrin after taking it twice a day for 60-90 days.
- decrease your daily dose of nicotine patch every 45-60 days (you can cut them in half as you gradually need less of it

Good luck---and good for you to try to quit!

Yes I tried it. It does curb the cravings and I stopped smoking for 7 months, it also helps mood swings and stuff, I was calmer on it but I had a very stressful job and started smoking again. I would definitely recommend it. However, if you are prone to seizures it is not a RX you want to take.

Yes it helps reduce the cravings for bad things like smoke alcohol etc. One of the biggest side affects is that it reduces the seizure threshold. So if yo are going through any type of withdrawals like alcohol or have a history a seizures your doctor need sto monitor your progress on this drug. The drugis real name is zayban which orinally came out as a smoking detoriant.
