If so, how many are there? Or at least a close estimate. Or better yet, if we do not, is there any way to know?

There are thousands of languages in the world. It is impossible to reach a consensus on an exact number because doing so would require coming up with a definitive list of different languages. That is problematic because the differences between different forms of speech come in degrees, and it is hard to decide whether two forms of speech should be considered separate languages or merely two dialects of the same language. Thus linguists would never be able to reach a consensus on all of those points. Also, we don't really know enough about all of the languages in the world to even try to make those decisions, even if scholars could somehow magically agree on it.
