Yes many breeds are more playful than others.
The Cavalier King Charles Spaniel is more of an adults dog. They became very popular because of their look.
She is a toy breed and not all of them are overly active.
I have seen many dogs that by breed were supposed to be active that just did not play with toys or not very playful but I think sometimes it is just the individual dogs.

My friend has two King Charles Spaniels - one male, one female. The girl is very playful but the boy is mental! It could just be her personality or maybe she's feeling under the weather? Why don't you get her checked out at the vet after all shes only young. Re your comment about she will only play if you play with her - dogs rarely play alone because they are social animals and need a lot of stimulation. When you take her to the park do you take a ball or a toy (like the ones you play tug-o-war with)? I'm not an expert so hopefully a vet will answer for you! Good luck.

Some are but most young dogs should be fairly playful. They tend to become less playful as they get older so it might just be that your spaniel has passed her "puppy" stage and it being a bit more "mature" about things. My 10 month old Border Collie/Labrador Cross is incredibly playful and will play with anything but I had a little poodle once who wasn't interested at all in dog toys, and my 11 year old Jack Russell couldn't care less about them!
If she's in good health then I wouldn't worry she's obviously a very laid back doggie! Having a psychotic collie cross myself I would welcome that! Very playful dogs can be hard work sometimes, especially when they get overexcited and tear around the house wrecking things!!!

Neutered dogs of both sexes tend to be much more placid than those that aren't. If you work fulltime or are out of the house a lot, she has adapted to a more laid-back lifestyle. Dogs pick up on our signals and she may know you really don't have the time or inclination to play much. She could be a bit bored but if you supply her with toys and play with her when you can, don't worry, esp if she's not overweight. Try to give her a little extra time, take her to a new place like a park that allows dogs off-leash or somewhere, to give her a little more interest in her surroundings.

Spaniels are a little more placid and docile than other breeds but getting loads of toys is a good thing.
The kongs that you hide treats in are good. It is good for her to try and get the treat out. My Staffie chews on it for ages. he crushes the biscuits then lies on his back and hold the kong in his mouth and shakes the crumbs out. He also throws it in the air and chases after it. Only once it came down and hit him on his head and he nearly jumped out of his skin and dived on the chair next to me. Get her a little teddy too. My staff has a teddy and he loves it. The poor thing gets shaken around like a dead rabbit but he still loves it.

Maybe your dog is getting to much exercie and has used up all the energy she has. Also, some dogs breeds are just alot more energetic than other breeds. Your dog is probably not bored. Some dogs just like to sit around all day and others like to be crazy everyday.

I have a Border Collie that will play all day if you let him!
He is always willing to find a toy and bring it for you to throw and fetch, play tug of war or hide it for him to find. It's my choice.....
Best of all though, he knows when the games are over, doesn't pester me for attention and is content to fall asleep at my feet until I am ready to play again.
Border Collies are just the most intelligent breed of dog I have ever owned.

MY SISTER HAD ONE OF THOSE WHEN I WAS LITTLE I FOUND IT SO BORING AS SHE WOULDN'T PLAY, BUT AT HOME I HAD A LAB X AND HE WOULD ALWAYS WANT TO PLAY FETCH. LIKE KIDS ALL DOGS ARE DIFFERENT. I HAD A BOXER YEARS AGO THAT DESTROYED MY HOUSE AND DIDN'T MATTER HOW MUCH I WALKED HIM HE ALWAYS WANTED MORE, I HAVE KNOW GOT A DIFFERENT BOXER AND SHE IS TOTALLY DIFFERENT, SHE ONLY LIKES SHORT WALKS ABOUT 15 MINS WORTH THEN I NORMALLY HAVE TO PULL HER UP THE PATH CAUSE SHE WANTS TO LAY DOWN AND SLEEP. SHE ISN'T 1 YET SO SHE SHOULD BE FULL OF BEANS. VET SAID SHE IS HEALTHY JUST A LAZY DOG. SO THEY ARE ALL DIFFERENT.
