This is the problem with people getting parrots that don't do their research before they purchase. If you'd have done your research on cockatoos you'd have read that too's are destructive and love to chew on woods of any kind. They rip, shred, tear and bite anything that they can possibly break. They are a hardbeak bird so providing chewing material is a necessity. My suggestion would be start making your own toys. Because parrot toys are very expensive, making them is the perfect thing for aviculturists with multiple large, or bird species that like to chew.
My husband brings home pieces of wood from work. None treated, raw woods. I macreme hemp, attach toys to it...it's cheap and the birds always have new toys to play with. Also you can go to ebay and find people that have bird toy parts for sale for very cheap.
If you aren't willing to do that, I'd say find another home for the bird that knows cockatoo behaivor and is willing to work with the bird. The fact that you are threatening to never let him out of his cage again shows that you don't have the temperament to tolerate parrots, as many find out AFTER they buy one..and I'd say, don't get another bird. Parrots DO NOT respond to punishment. It just makes them angry and more aggressive. Maybe you'd be more suited to a dog or cat that are simple in mind. Birds take a special kind of person to be able to deal with behaivor and activity issues that alot of people can't deal with. We are a special breed. LOL
Also..I'm sure his beak is fine..and you will NEVER find a toy that a cockatoo can't destroy in about 2.4 mins. They are very very strong birds. So be prepaired to be constently renewing it's toy supply.

You can't punish a parrot for bad behavior and it's unlikely that you will be able to "teach" a parrot not to do what comes natural and is instinctual!

Cockatoos are chewers and they can and will be destructive at every opportunity if they are allowed to come in contact with items to chew. (even items that are not theirs)

May I suggest that you make sure your cockatoo has a lot of wooden toys of it's own to chew on and you supervise it when it is out of the cage so that it can't destroy your things, not only for the protection of your valubles, but for the safety of the bird.

omg please don't punish bird for natural behavior. you just need to redirect it. give him toys specifically for his breed so they will last and be a challenge for him. when he does try to chew on things you don't want him to, then you should put him in the cage. if you are consistant, he will understand what is off limits. also, you may want to check and see if his beak is getting too long. he may be trying to file it down.

Toys!! If he had toys to chew on he wouldn't need to chew your furniture. Get him lots of toys!!
