It's the Soldier, not the reporter,
Who has given us the freedom of the press.
It's the Soldier, not the poet,
Who has given us the freedom of speech.
It's the Soldier, not the politicians,
That ensures our right to Life, Libertyand the Pursuit of Happiness.
It's the Soldier who salutes the flag,
Who serves beneath the flag,
And whose coffin is draped by the flag.

No question this is true. However not just the soldier(Army) but the Marine, Navy, Air force, and Coast Guard. All play a very important part in protecting our way of life.

And the best part, all are made up of people like you and me.

who controls soldiers. Politicians. Who controls politicians. The people (voting). Exactly.

I would also argue that poets and reporters influence public opinion (the vote) via culture, so i think i would disagree with pretty much 100% of that flag waving nonsense above. Apart from the fact that at the end of the day, when all is said and done, soldiers always get the **** end of life.

And in many cases it's also the soldier who shoots the reporters, poets and politicians at the command of their leader. Let's not insult soldiers for doing their job but don't go over doing it.

No, it's the soldier who has PROTECTED those freedoms, not given them to us.
Freedoms are given by way of laws.
The Beauty of practice is given by the Orators, Artists and Editors.

As an ex-soldier, I didn't give anyone any freedoms...I SIMPLY PROTECTED THOSE FREEDOMS of which we have already be given!
I'm proud to have PROTECTED those for my fellow citizens and would gladly do it again...as long as the fight to do so was under just cause, not lies and political gains.

I disagree, what freedom of press? what feedom of speach. Even on here you are watched and punished for things....You take lifes as well as save them....All we here on the news is 1 british troop dead..one brave american troop dead..what about the 1000's of people you kill? People die in war, then there families have a go at the goverments for putting them there. If you choice the army as a career you face the fact that you might have to go to war and you might die.

Sorry...Im sure most people love all the soliders and I do belive its a good job....But it is just a job your choice...I dont go on about my job everyday....

There are lost of defenders of our freedom, besides the military. Granted, they deserve the lion's share of the honors, but it is a joint effort of all Americans.

totally, and you should get loads of points for it. It doesn't happen very often that people say nice things about soldiers.
