I am severely afraid of any kind of storms. If the noise hurts your ears or something. Get some ear muffs, the kind i had to buy was the kind that is used for wearing when going hunting. I needed these are it is a big help. You can get them from walmart in the hunting area. They are red. I have had panic attacks from storms.

There is no way to logically convince someone not to be fearful about something. It is possible, however, to train yourself out of the fear by a process of desensitization. You start with a recording of a thunderstorm. You can obtain this from the web or from a "sleep machine" one of the selections is a thunderstorm. You play the recording at a low level in an environment that feels safe to you. Then you work up to playing the recording quite loud. Then view films that contain sound and footage of thunderstorms. The Discovery channel is big on this. Then work on real thunderstorms. Remember that the goal is to act as if you are not afraid. Continue with your actions as if you were not in a storm. Now I don't mean playing golf or flying a kite. Just the inside actions that you would normally take. It really helps to act as if you are not afraid. This will over a period of time train your body not to produce the fear reaction.

My daughter was scared of it also. It appears she is getting over it but she is 7 years old. I guess you never learned not to be scared. I believe that our responses to things are learned and can be changed if we work at it.
If I want to change the way I react to something, I decide first what my new reaction is going to be. Then practice by imagining myself reacting that way. When the time comes I judge myself after it happened until it's natural.
That's all I have to offer. Maybe you could find a book or web site with other methods.
Or get a boyfriend! I liked that answer.

I have the same problem it is the bang after the lightning. Actually the lightning is sort of pretty to watch. I just cover my head with the pillow to try and drown out the nosie that the thunder makes.

The thunder does not bother me...it is the lightning that does...I have been hit by it, maybe that is why..Some people just don't like loud noises. If you have a radio, try turning it up LOUD during the storm..you may be able to feel the vibration of the thunder and the radio may muffle it a lot.....good luck.

Most of us would be happy to get rain as a lot of the country has seen yet another drought this summer and ruined crops.
