Well, I for one hope to attempt to make the UFT in some years now, and that would explain everything in terms of itself.

However, terms of itself is NOT the same as 'terms that humans are allowed to comprehend', or in other words, science will explain everything but it won't all be explained in terms any of us can understand.

Only one thing is for certain - science is going to make some big leaps in the future.

Finally, I am curious as to why you put this to atheists - are there not theists who think that the ultimate conclusion of science is that there is a God?

I think in the future science will be able to explain everything. We just aren't advanced enough yet to find the reason behind things.

It is not in your best interest to think in terms of "all or nothing."
But to answer your question:
I think, it is possible that men of science could one day understand everything, for everything does exist, and is knowable. But humanity will not exist long enough to get to that point. Due to religious fanatics and their desire to squash "evil".

We're always figuring out more and more and making new scientific discoveries, but it's a very slow process. I doubt mankind will ever find explanations for everything though. I think we'll die out before that.

But I do know that religion explains nothing.
