I'm pretty new at driving and yesterday was taking a left turn in a small city's downtown area. It was from a side street onto a busier road, and I had a stop sign. I needed to turn left, but there was this huge delivery truck parked at the corner, so I could not see any of the cars coming from the left. Cars coming from the left could not see me until I was fully into the road.

What does one do in this situation? Kind of creep forward so that you're halfway into the road till you can finally see, at which point the driver coming from the left will see you and hopefully let you go? Or do you just take the left turn and hope anyone barreling at you from the left will hit the brakes?

This is an accident waiting to happen...

Your best bet is to make a right and drive arround the block turnig left three times then right. This will put you going in the direction you wanted to go in the first place. It may seem like a hassle but it sure is better than the alternative, paying to fix someone elses car as well as yours.

I drive a very small car ( a Mazda Miata...) and have been in this situation. Because of my car, it is even less likely that someone coming the other direction will see me.

What I do? Simple - I lay on the horn as I creep forward! A long continuous horn blast (from my crappy little squeaky horn, LOL!) is usually enought to let anyone know I'm there...

Try it - that's what the horn is for!

Good luck!

If your view is blocked, you may want to turn right instead. Then go down and turn around at another intersection or parking lot safely!

you're doing the marvelous ingredient by utilising waiting until eventually you will discover that there is not any oncoming site visitors. even nevertheless, I even have one question: Are you pulling into the intersection in any respect? which would be why human beings are laying on their horns. the ideal thank you to try this's to tug section way into the intersection, yet shop your wheels pointed right this moment, until eventually you're helpful the coast is sparkling.

Don't turn if you can not safely do so. Go to the next intersection , turn around and go back.
