Ok so everytime a disagreement arises a bible thumper will throw the bible in your face as proof of their argument. I would like an answer that if the bible is the source of all answers why does it tell us ok to sell daughter as slave, kill mother for wearing garment made from 2 kinds of thread, etc? Is it really ok to do these things? ***My main question is that if you ignore half of the bible what makes the other half valid? Really not trying to be offensive but confused since it seems to be a "Pick what you like, call if word of God and discard what you don't like".

Ok for some reason people take this question as admission I have not studied Bible. I have..in a religious classroom.
And as for athiests I can agree but it works the other way too. 98% of the religious who I talk to spout bible or whatever and scream I am going to Hell if I disagree (and most of them have NOT studied Bible)..not very rational, loving, or decent. Let's also take into account that athiests have been tortured, killed, and persecuted by theists for thousands of years so I would think they are a little bitter with good reason too.

I know there is a God, I know I don't fully understand God, but I cannot understand how Bible is the word of God if some parts are to be followed and some are to be glossed over with changing of time.

You've hit the nail on the head. They ignore what they don't like, memorize what they do like and bash everyone else on the head with their interpretation of it. That sums it up!

No we don't pick, or at least I don't.
The Atheists seem to use atrocious and degrading language whenever the argument is based on Bible prophecy.
I have only had decent conjecture with 2 Atheists and their side was interesting but I respected their input.
On the other hand many and I do mean many have decide profanity is the leading edge in their cause.
You see having a way of life and trying to follow it is more respectable than making it up as you go.
Picking lines in the Bible without study is foolish.
I'm sure when you are in school you read more than 1 line in an equation.

Ask someone for help in actually learning how to read and understand the Bible.
It makes a world of difference.

In reality, there is no picking or choosing in the Bible. The Bible is the word and every part of it is true--the Lord's word will not return null and void. You have different testaments because of the way in which things happened. We are not dealing with the same types of sins in the old testament as we are dealing with in the new testament. They may be similarities, but overall there are different sins. The Lord made a new covenant with the authors of the New Testament which is why it is broken into this fashion. Everything in the Old testament is valid. The only other difference is the way in which you get forgiveness for the sins, too

God has real life situations in the Old Testament because we live in an imperfect world.

Remember, the Old Testament was before Jesus came, when the world was unredeemed from sin. A lot of the Bible is negative, with characters who don't come to a happy ending. This is so we can learn from their mistakes.

Jesus came and replaced the old law with one word: Love. If you love your neighbor, then it is a given that you won't steal from them, or kill them.

The Bible IS a source of a lot of answers. The wisdom of the Proverbs offers tips for being victorious in everyday life. Song of Solomon paints a picture of a healthy romance. The gospels (Matthew, Mark, Luke, John) chronicles the time Jesus spent on earth and the miracles he performed, and the things He said, which still bless people.

There seems to be some sincerity in your question and not simply an attempt to discredit the book because of some harsh but difficult passages. The bible for the large part is a historical document and must be understood in view of who and when it was being written to. The passages you mentioned have no bearing on us but were written to a people who were surrounded by nations who had no law but unto themselves. Surely you would agree the laws given to the people then were for a well ordered society and intended for ones benefit and the good of another.

One cannot ignore any of the bible and still claim it is of God, but it will be ever difficult to understand unless it is studied as intended, from beginning to end.

I prefer to call myself a Christian. The Holy Bible is God's inspired and infailable word. Somethings we must take by faith. Parts of the Bible are from Old Testament, which was before Jesus was born. People lived under the law. Sacrifice had to take place before sin was forgiven. When Jesus died on the cross and gave his life, he was the final and ultimate sacrifice for our sins. Just suppose I am right, what would you have to loose but eternal life. Think about it. Try him, he never fails you. I hope this helps answer your valid question.

Why is it so hard for you to understand that the Old Testament was for a time and people before Christ came. The Old Testament was Law with very little grace. When Christ came we entered into a new time for a new people. The New Testament IS Grace while still under certain aspects of the law. The Ten Commandments for example. The Old Testament (bloody as it is) is our History The New testament is our guide and new history.

Shaz,
I would dearly love to answer your question. But it appears Yahoo!/NSA censors are the same as the Bible thumpers, in that they won't like what I have to say so the religio-fascist dooshes will just strike it from the record... much like they did yesterday to a similiar question which contained many valid points. Censorship is alive & well in America and its address is Yahoo.com. NOTHING offends me more....

That is what we Muslims are saying from last 1400 years - Current Bible is not the pure word of God and it has been corrupted.

Now you have to follow the Last Testament i.e Holy Qur'an. Holy Qur'an is the last word of God to Humanity and it addressess everyone from every walk of life. In short holy Qur'an has something for everything.

You would do yourself dishonesty if you won't purchase a copy of the Qur'an. if you are not able to find out, email me and I will tell you how to obtain one for free.
