I have a serious sore thoat. This the worst I have ever felt it. I have tried to gargle warm salt water. I will see if this helps, but I am feeling like a burning that started out as a tingle. This does not usually happen during normal sore thoats.

Tonsils are usually not taken out while they are infected. If you have repeat infections (requiring antibiotics) you may want to have them removed. This is done after the infection has resolved to avoid excessive bleeding.

If you are having more pain than usual, your infection has been going on for a few days, you can't swallow and you have fevers, you should be checked by your doctor. You may have a streptococcal infection ("Strep Throat") or you may have a peritonsillar abscess. Both of these can potentially be dangerous if untreated. You may just have tonsillitis or a list of other processes (including Mono, etc).

The best thing is to be seen, tested and treated. Tonsillectomy is done later...not while you're sick.

That is a last resort, try the gargle, and a good doctor... who will try to help you get well, without surgery...
