You will need to have a wide variety of
activities to keep this child busy.
They will have only a short attention
span. I would also keep your tone in a
kind and respectful manner. A child
still needs to understand your the
adult and your the teacher. A child is to
benefit from the lesson in a good way.
Have fun with your students.

Please check on the diet of your five year old. Does the diet include caffeine/sugar/artificial colors? I learned at an early age that certain foods affected her behavior. If she has any sugar or artificial color, I know to get some "regular" food in her within 30 minutes or she will be "borderline" in her behavior. Also make sure there is plenty of oppurtunity for releasing energy. When I see the signs in my daughter, I have her do "NASCAR Racing". We start at one end of the house and pretend to be race cars doing laps. We have green lights and yellow cautions and even pit stops. I get her to make the car sounds as she runs as fast as she can around the "race course". Great energy release.
Also try to find a local park or playground so they can run and yell. If they like it well enough you can make it part of your reward system for good behavior or something to take away for bad behavior.
But mainly, really look at their diet. How much soda do you allow, or Kool-Aid? Cut your apple juice with water. There is a lot of natural sugar in apple juice and that can lead to "hyperness". If none of this helps, find a good doctor that will do a food allergy test. Reactions to food like wheat can come out as hyperness.
You have to help your child be a good child. Remember, you control their diets, not them.

I am a teacher and I too have hyper children in my classroom and I use the method of redirecting the child or keeping the child busy doing something. I give them little jobs to keep them busy.

My 4-twelve months-previous daughter likes development toys like blocks, wedgits, legos, marble song, tinkertoys, etc. previous that, i might say her well-liked toys are artwork aspects and a few board video games (her modern-day well-liked is "Rat-a-tat-cat" -- very cool memory card game). My 2-twelve months-previous son's well-liked toy is something on wheels. close 2nd is the play kitchen and play meals. close third is something that is not a toy, ideally if that is extremely no longer something he could be twiddling with.
