In the beginning, everything was perfect and sinless, until Adam and Eve screwed it up. When they did, they were cursed with sin... it became an inherited trait passed down through men (akin to being the penultimate Dominant trait) that revealed itself as the being able to physically die from age. It is part of who we, as mankind, are.

However, the fact that we are born with sin makes it that much more likely that we too will commit sin as well. Sin is defined as the transgression (breaking) of God's Laws. Sin is also a self-destructive behaviour and, so to say, speeds up the process of death (such as loose morality gives rise to STDs, hate leads to a wasting away internally and murder [and punishments thereof] externally, lies and theft lead to guilt [and the resulting physical stress thereof], etc).

The act of asking forgiveness is a one-time act. All sins are forgiven, however it can be 'nullified' (again, so to speak) if you fail to have a change of heart, and yet continue to willingly sin.

In essence, being born with sin shows people how they need God's grace on a grand, lifelong scale, as well as forgiveness for the individual sins.

(Note, however, the question you've asked is akin to: What's the point of being born with brown hair when you can dye it? It's not about having a point, having brown hair is a trait your parents had, and hence, you have. Same with inborn sin. It is a trait your parents had, and theirs, and theirs, all the way to Adam, and is passed along the male line [since it was Adam who technically outright disobeyed God], until it gets to you).

God's lazy. He figured it would be much easier to set up a reproductive system instead of individually specifying the characteristics of each new person. Basically we're born in sin because God set up sinful little naughty parts, just because he's too lazy to make everybody himself. The point of that being that God secretly gets off on watching it.

You have a little misunderstanding of Original sin. Here is one way to describe Original sin.

The paradise in which God created the human race was a place where all people lived in complete holiness. They loved God with all their heart, with all their soul, and with all their mind. They loved their neighbors as much as they loved themselves.

Then the first human beings disobeyed the commandment of God, choosing to follow their own will rather than God's will. This was the Original Sin.

As a consequence the first human beings lost the grace of original holiness, and became subject to the law of death; sin became universally present in the world.

Besides the personal sin of the first human beings, original sin describes the fallen state of human nature which affects every person born into the world. Therefore we are not responsible for Original sin but we are affected by it.

It was this fallen state from which Christ, the "new Adam," came to redeem us. Jesus makes paradise available to us again and teaches us how to live there, "You shall love the Lord, your God, with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind. You shall love your neighbor as yourself."

With love in Christ.

Sin is herititary. We were born into sin because of our ancestors Adam and Eve. It is engrained into our every being through our bloodline. The point is that we should be able to go to our heavenly Father and ask for forgiveness anytime we commit a sin. This can be done anytime.

Sin nature (original sin). Because by asking God for forgiveness from the sin you are a) admitting that there IS a God, and b) humbling yourself before God.

Think about our society today, few people admit there IS a God, and even fewer admit they EVER make mistakes.

Even Adam and Eve's children were born in sin, because of the first sin of them eating the fruit from the tree of life when they were specifically told not to. Hence, we are all born in sin. Adam and Eve were perfect before the fall, but they were not born into sin as they were not born, but created. They were placed in Paradise. The sin was committed in Paradise.
There was no sin before them. And so it began.
However, they were repentant for their sins, and their son, Cain, was not for the murder of his brother Abel.

People aren't born in sin, babies are perfect. I personally don't buy into the whole "SINNING" concept. People are human, we make mistakes, we hopefully learn from them and we go on. I always hated the fact that some people think we enter the world "bad" and in need of forgiveness. It's absurd.
