Do you mean from an audio CD or by converting an existing file? Look on http://www.download.com in their audio/video section and you should be able to find some free software to help you out.

i have continuously merely used the headphone jack of the tape participant. Use a cord to connect from it into the line in port of your sound card. you could then play the tape as generic yet record it onto your computing gadget. it is going to likely record it as a wav record, yet that could really be switched over into an mp3

If you want to rip cds to mp3, then use Audiograbber - it's free
http://www.filehippo.com/download_audiograbber/
another free tool is CDex
http://www.filehippo.com/download_cdex/?403
If you convert cds to mp3 whilst connected to internet, both programmes will download track information for you.
