i have two scared budgies and they are no longer babies. when i bought the first bird he was scared by a family member and he has stayed scared of humans since, so someone told me if he had another bird he would be happyer and less afraid, so i went and bought another one but now that one is just afraid. i have thought about giving them away to a friend so they could be in an avery with other birds but someone told me i cant do that because i keep them inside at night and the avery is outside and truly i dont want to give them away . what should i do and what if i dont have the time to sit by the cage everyday holding my hand in ?

Keets are skittish. They are very tiny birds and they are easily scared. Try to work with them several time a day. Try to lure them out with treats and just let them sit on you if you can get them that far. I wouldn't give them away, they can't help that they are small and scared. They can live quite happily as cage birds. I have a keet in a flight cage with my cockatiels and he's been there for years. I can't handle him either but he's still very content.
Good luck.
Don't put a sock on your hand and grab them...for f*cks sake..that is just going to scare them worse.

There really isn't much of an option except to spend time with it. slowly the birds will become accustomed to you but this only will happen if they see you all the time and realize you're not there to hurt them. Try putting the cage somewhere where you are always there either doing some reading, working, eating, or watching tv. They like to observe you and not feel like you are observing them. Also, a game that my bird loved to play when she first came to my home, was a blinking game. I would mimic her blinking and vice versa. Blinking is a sign of trust forming between two new friends. If your bird is scared it will not blink back. So just blink at them while holding eye contact so they know you are not a predator. Soon your bird will start to trust you and if he blinks back then you are on the way to a happy tame bird! Then you can start to train him to perch on your finger and all that good stuff =]

you should get rid of one to be honest alot of times when you get a mate it makes them meaner and scared they want to protect eachother i have had birds all my life and anther way is when you are around take the mirror out of the cage so they only see you and not another bird in the mirror. if they bite take a sock and put it on your hand and hold them pet it with the other hand you will built its trust up and wont be so scared even if its once a week

Try to work with them about 2-3 hours a day, maybe. Take delicate care with it.
