i just started the 4th grade. i got a afro. let him keep homie it is a chick magnet. just braid it sometimes like i do with my hair. my mama always braids my hair when i'm in los angeles with her. my hair is curly and soft just like yo baby boys. my dad let me keep it. my two older bros romeo and vercy had they hair cut short when they was in grade school. my little one year old brother mercy has it cut short right now. but romeo and vercy now have long hair. they got braids just like are dad.

I can so relate to this. My son decided to have an afro when he was fourteen and I was bery against it! Eery day that I had to remind him to pick it etc. was a pain. However, your son is correct. It is a chick magnet and if you made him cut it off it would not be good for the relationship or his self esteem. Let him have it, he will want to get it cut off soon enough by his own choice. Be patient!!!!! When my son finally decided to, after a few months, girls were calling the house crying and I was silently rejoicing!!!!! Leave the fro!!!

I am the mother of a 4th grader who also wants to grow a afro, I take him to the barber shop every other Friday to get it trimmed and edged. The other maintenance is up to him, he knows that if it's messy or unpicked off it will go. So he has been really good with taking care of his "fro". Hope this helps.

Usually, an afro on a 4 year old is cute. Let him have it if he wants it...after all, it's a chick magnet! But if it's at all nappy, pull out the clippers.

I'd say leave it, unless it's somehow against the dress code of the school. There's nothing wrong with letting his hair go natural, so I don't think anyone at school should have a problem with it.... and if they do, tough luck. It's his head.

oh, please don't cut the afro! they are so gorgeous!
and yes, you are the parent, but it's nice to let our kids make some decisions about themselves. not authority control decisions, but lighter ones...like their hair cuts.
make a comprise with him on the length. afros are so good looking!

Let him keep it! (As long as its ok with school) Hes just expressing himself... at least he doesnt want a tattoo or something. After a few weeks of school he may be ready for a change anyway!
