Explain lapping length of the reinforcement bar for pilecap?

For pilecap of depth 1.50m, we are using 2 U-bars. The length of one side of U is 0.85m. What will be the minimum lapping length for construction

The length of lap will vary with location, size of bar, concrete strength, grade of steel, type of concrete, bar spacing and cover, lateral reinforcement, amount of stress in bar and whether tensile or compressive. Therefore, this has to be designed by an engineer to meet the demands of the joint and cannot be subjected to a simple rule of thumb.
