Carne Guisado - Colombian Stewed Beef
A delicious dish with beef, spices and tomatoes. Serve over rice with fried crispy plantains called 'patacon' and a simple salad with a twist of lime and olive oil, salt and pepper.
1 lb flank steak
2 tablespoons vegetable oil
4 cloves garlic
2 teaspoons ground cumin
6 roma tomatoes
2 medium onions
2 beef bouillon cubes (prefer Maggie or Knorr brand)
2 cups water
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon pepper
4 servings
1. Heat the oil in a skillet and saute flank steak until browned.
2. Remove from the skillet and saute chopped tomatoes, thinly sliced onions, minced garlic and cumin until vegis are tender.
3. Add the flank steak, water, boullion, salt and pepper.
4. Allow to simmer on low until tender and meat pulls apart with a fork.
5. Pull the steak apart into bite sized peices.
6. Allow the sauce to cook down to desired thickness for serving on rice, or add more water depending on how much it has cooked down.
7. Enjoy!

Here are a couple of sites which might help. Does your husband not know how to cook or know anyone in the area from Columbia or have a mother who could send him recipes? Shame on him for not trying your food and making you feel bad.
If he yearns only for "his" food he should be willing to make some efforts to show you how to prepare them or to prepare them himself. I fear you may have problems ahead.

Good luck with the recipes and your marriage.

I am Colombian also, and one cardinal rule is always have white rice. Then any kind of potatoe and meat, basic condiments to use are, cumin, cilantro, onions, and tomatoes. and that should turn any meal into a Colombian meal.
