I had just this trouble last year. I had no idea what to get him, as my mum was sending him on tall ships adventure week thing and everything seemed so small compared to that! With my small budget i couldn't buy him much, but me and my sister decided to buy him a gliding voucher, where he would go up in a glider (a powerless plane) with an instructer and would have the chance to control the plane for a while. That cost £40 which isnt too bad if you can split it a few ways. For my mum we were in Africa for her birthday (on a budget safari) and me, my dad and my sister paid for her to go on a balloon ride over the Namib desert. This sis cost quite allot and it costs even more over here but it is well worth it. If your dad loves extreme sports you could give him a voucher for a day on the race track etc (i think you can get these from boots. If you have a quite small budget and really cant think of anything then you could try and get 40 silly presents. The whole point of this is that they are sillly and not expensive, i.e. a clothes peg could be one. Joke stores are the best for this kind of stuff but you could just go round your local supermarket and they have fun kids stuff that will remind him of playing with you when you were little (stuff like bubbles!) Hpe that helps and good luck (oh and a really big card! and if he doesnt want one with a huge 40 on then get him 2 with 20 on or one 30 one 10)

Hi Sara,
I'm a 40 year old Dad. I know its difficult to buy presents, you want it to mean something but what do you buy us difficult and boring people?
You Dad will love whatever you get him.
It also depends on your budget.
I personally like books on astronomy, science fiction, standard fiction, and history (but then I am very boring).
If you think that your Dad would like this sort of thing, then my best three books are:
1/ Into Thin Air by Jon Krakauer (Everest Disaster)
best book I've read for years
2/ Anything by Iain Banks (fiction) but you have to like challenging thoughts
3/ Anything by Iain M Banks (science fiction) - I can thoroughly recommend the Algebraist (last one I read)
Good luck. Remember, whatever you get him, he'll love you.

Give him a trial flight in a plane, he gets to fly it. £150.00 approx
Or a rally car, or a racing car all the same price i think. He will love it!
