She sounds alittle like I was when I was that age. Is she maturing rapidly? My problems with the stubborness and not wanting to study was behind my hormones. I ended up starting my period on my 10th birthday. Exactly on my birthday. Not much of a birthday present. Anyway after that things got back to normal. Except I never liked math and not having interested teachers in making sure I understood what they were teaching I too had problems in math. IF it isnt her hormones you might want to peek in on her classes at school. I found with my boys that if they didnt hit it off with thier teacher they wouldnt do good so I would get them changed to another teacher. Alot of people might not agree that the teacher student relationship has anything to do with thier studies but I found it does. Just because kids are kids doesnt mean that they are going to get along with everyone. Once I would change them to another classroom they would do great. And I am not talking about only a small difference I am talking about with one teacher they would get C's and D's and after moving them they would start getting A's and B's.
If the teacher isnt putting enough effort into making sure she understands certain things that she is having trouble with she is going to get very frustrated and loose complete interest in doing the work. So if it isnt her hormones and her going thru a change I would go check out her teacher. I also found that if my boys didnt want to tell me what was bothering them I would have them draw me a picture or write what was going on in thier heads. Sounds stupid but it also works. You can find out alot about what is going on inside your little girls head that way. Tell her to draw a picture of her teacher. From that you will see how she feels about her or him. Hope things get better and I have been of some help. Education is so very important.

Sound like there is a bigger problem, which may actually be the "root" of her problem. Take a look at the way you talk to her (and about her, as well written in this question) There may be a problem at h-o-m-e...sorry if that was to s-l-o-w for you...
