when I was looking into buying a jeep i went through the same process. I bought a standard length jeep {Rubicon] based on these answers i was told. first, i was told that the unlimited drove like a tank, [2] jeep was having a very difficult in selling them [3] in some off road situations the unlimited just does not have the same clearance. also i have friends that have jeep ['03 - 05] all have 90k - 110k] with no problems only routine maintenance. i would defiantly go with the standard length. as far as which model to purchase, if it was between the basic wrangler and the sport, i would go for the sport. based on this, for a few extra dollars it has some features that is worth the extra money and is cheaper than adding them later,i.e. bigger tires fog lamps shocks etc. good luck let me know what you decide.

If you can afford it, get the Unlimited. You will be happy you have the extra room. The ride quality and on road handling will be better due to the longer wheelbase. It will even be better in some offroad situations. The current Unlimiteds will hold their value very well also due to the short time they have been out (there is an all new unlimited due next year). In years to come, they will certainly be rare. If you are driving on the road alot (commuting, shopping, etc.) forget the short wheelbase Jeeps. Not that there is anything wrong with them, the Unlimiteds are just so much better.
If you can wait another few months, the new generation Unlimiteds will be out which have all new bodies and 4 DOORS! the new ones should have the same great off roadability and versatility of the Warnglers with more cargo and passenger space than your old Cherokee.
One more word: do keep up on maintainence as Jeeps do tend to have below average reliability (it's rare that someone has as little problems on a Cherokee as you have). Good luck!
I do agree mostly with maverick999. Toyotas are way better. My second car? Jeep. My third? 4Runner. The Jeep doesen't compare. Jeeps are pretty cool, though.

well i can honestly say that they are not building those jeeps like they used to. They used to be made to last, and not they barely last more than a 100,000 miles if you are lucky to get it past 75,000. the tranny and heads are not the same. I would get an old one with lowwwwww mles.
