For me, it's the word love. I know this may sound cheesy, but it's such an all-encompassing word and it provokes such a range of emotions and opinions.
I enjoy reading books on Taoist philosophy. These phrases have an effect on me: The Way (Dao), non-action, path
For Christians, the word may be Jesus.

If you mean supernatural power, then absolutely NOT. On the other hand, if you mean some symbols and words have a way of mesmerizing some people in some nations such that they behave in irrational or counterproductive ways, then absolutely YES. One need only look at how the terms, "freedom" and democracy", not to mention the symbol that is the flag, can be used to make people suspend their critical thinking skills and support abuse of power and war crimes.

yes! the bibles words and concepts hav fathers spiritual power upon them, for the working of the word, thats why we preach a message, the message is heard in the words! And some symboles such as the cross< or a demonic symbol might have a evil spirit attatched to it,giving it a certain power or curse!

Of course religious words and symbols have been passed down through the ages and have a very solemn effect on people who believe in their power. As for a word having any power besides mental, I doubt it.

No word can be used to explain super-power. I don't use word or symbol to show my point. I use imagination beyond the true knowledge of science.

All power is given to the Son of God. Consider his words and the symbol of His sign, and then you shall know of power.

Yes. a big one too. scientists proved that certain word are capable of changing the mulicules of water when read directly on them. word like love and peace will change the shape these small crystals into sth beautiiful and har monious meanwhile words like war an d hate change them into hideous shapes. If these small word can change the water, wont more powerfull words change more abstract things?!

I gotta second Ello's emotion. I was gonna use that same rhyme about sticks and stones because that is bullshyt. Words hurt! They are the most damaging weapon that a human being can yield. A big part of peoples problem today is what someone said to them yesterday. There are so many people suffering from verbal abuse today. Women who are told they ain't shyt by their man, children who are told they ain't shyt by their parent(s), and worst of all the victims of the abuse that believe it. Even when they try to block it out, the seed is already planted and the words reverberate in their minds over and over and over until they start to act out the description of what they have been accused of. How many of us know someone who was accused of being a ho for so long she decided to be one? Especially when her parents accuse her of it. How many people do we know that have been told they would never amount to anything so they gave up trying? Some are strong enough to overcome it and strive to prove their abusers wrong. Most fall prey to the horrific labels and end up living up to them.
