I got food poisoning and threw up a lot tonight. Afterwards I had (and still have) lots of little red dots all over my face. This happened once (they were there for almost a week!) before and a doctor told me it was thousands of popped blood vessels. Can anyone tell me why and how this happens? Thanks.

the red dots are called petechiae......

.Petechiae (puh-TEE-key-eye) are tiny little broken capillary blood vessels. Everyone has had them. A hard bout of coughing or vomiting can cause facial petechiae, especially around the eyes. These mean nothing.

When you get food poisoning or alcohol poisoning...You always throw-up and this forces the poisoning through your system alot faster and harder...Thats why you have red dots all over your face...I did the same with alcohol poisoning years ago...I was in my 20's and i was like that for 3 terrible days and i was unable to go to work...Boy did i poisons myself...Thats why i no longer drink...

It's just a reaction. What did you eat? Was it something you were alergic to? If you were allergic to it, it may have caused you to throw up and have red dots!

When you throw up alot of blood rushes quickly to the head, this causes high pressure and in some cases may cause the blood cells to 'burts' like when you get hit really hard and your left with an instant bruse.

You were throwing up very violently, right?

That strain popped some blood vessels.

Good job getting food poisoning. :o Bad restaurant, or bad home cooking?

Actually I think you should go with Cornerstones answer. Seems informed enough.

Speaking of informed....regarding your reply to " Why do so many people on hear have brains the size of peanuts?"....well....I like your style, pretty lady.
