we never had that problem, our sons finished at 4-5 months and our daughter after 6 weeks only.
it's more the security at this stage for your son... I think u really need to be stern with him, explain what ur doing by stopping, despite his age, he will understand what u are saying even if he doesn't get why, but he will be prepared.
U need to introduce more activities before bedtime, and give him a bottle before bed.. solids during day... maybe if u express for a while and introduce a different kind of fluid gradually...
Hard to say, but u have to be firm with him too... no matter how hard it is... cos this has to do with nourishing your child... it's not the same as him being bold or something that you can be firm with him otherwise for.
Yes, understand the dilema... but I do know speaking as a father that couldn't feed his children for months on end that the father misses out on so much, and when both parents can feed and deal with the child, it becomes easier to handle the strife that comes with chnages in habits :)
Best of luck...

Here, in Spain, Doctors recommend when you want to stop breastfeeding, just to let them inside the cradle and try to ignore them when they're crying, I know it seems hard, but that's the only way to stop breastfeeding, at first, they cry a lot, but at finish, they will accustomed to that and start sleep with normality...

when my sister tried to wean her daughter, she tried not being around when her daughter would normally breast feed. my niece wouldnt take a bottle when my sister was around, but if it was just my brother-in-law, she would. a couple months later after my sister stayed in the room or tried giving her the bottle, my niece started refusing it. so they gave her the choice of a bottle or a sippy cup. she took the sippy cup, but not the bottle. its hard, but u have to just let your son cry, because otherwise its not going to happen. its high time he stopped breastfeeding.

i almost raged at you. when i first saw the question, i thought it said 15 years old!!! yuck, anyway my sister had this problem and her doctor told her to just keep telling him no. Itt may seem like you are starving the child, but beleive me he will eat someything else eventually. its not abuse because you are not depriving him, you are merely cuttiing off one food source and replacing it with another. he will eat the alternative when he realizes what he won't get anymore. it will be tough because as a mother you want to please your child, but it will be worth it for both of you in the long run. good luck.
