For the most part, people have a difficult time believing in something that is not registered by their five senses. To believe in Jesus takes faith. All people have a measure of faith (says the bible), but different people choose to put their faith in different things. I also think that it's not so much that people don't want to believe in God, but that because of the obedience that God requires, it makes faith seem out of reach for them. This world's values are a direct contradiction to God's values. People think that because God is all knowing and all seeing that he should make our lives be free from obstacles. And since he gave us free will, people assume that there must not be a God. B/c if there was one, bad things wouldn't happen. Where there is good there is also evil. It is b/c we have free will bad things will always happen, as well as good.
Lastly, I don't think that people like the feeling of not being in control of their own destiny. They don't like authority or any one telling them what they are doing is wrong. People like to do what feels good instead of what is good. Having a belief in Jesus cause them to be accountable for their actions.

Because the whole thing is unbelievable, the bible could be an old fictional novel that someone wrote in their freetime. And for some people it's hard for them to believe that God created everything, where did god come from and why was he so special? What if we are an 8th graders science project? Or what if we are "The Sims" just a kid's video game? Some people think too much about it, and can't believe things we cannot see. Some people believe that there is something out there, but are not sure it is God or are not sure what it is.

Many factors. One major factor is hypocrisy. So many people who claim to be followers of Christ are hypocrites. Which is what the uninformed people think is the majority of christians. However, since a true christian is to be humble they often make such remarks to a christian such as myself. While I sit there and try to steer them in the right direction without revealing my real motive. Jesus said be shrewd as serpents but innocent as doves.

Aside from hypocrisy, a lot of people have problems believe in God whatsoever. Their own ego will not let them believe.

The reason I find to be true most often: Because they know it's the truth and it scares the hell out of them.

I pray often and the closer I get...the more afraid I am. I love Jesus, but I'm scared of him too. How can you not be scared of something/someone so powerful?

We are programmed to over-indulge in all the things that will ultimately bring our demise. We are full of self-hatred. We love genocide. War, hatred... Even the things we call pleasure are actually pain. We get too drunk, poisioning our bodies, and call it fun. We take too many/misuse drugs poisioning our bodies and call it fun. We exhaust ourselves with uncontrollable lust and call it love. We gorge ourselves and terrible unhealthy foods. We are as equally mass-produced and mass-marketed as the very products we consume. Completely disposable (1,000,000 abortions each year?!?!), and once more, bio-degradeable (stem cells anyone?).

People do not have a hard time believing in Jesus. People do have a hard time believing that the teachings of Jesus are truly being followed by the people who preach it.

Because the Bible is very old, mostly made-up, and has been changed a lot over the years.

And Jesus was not the only son of God. He's just the only one that Christians actually acknowledge as the Son Of God.

Now for my question: Why do you care what other people believe? It's their own business, just as your beliefs are yours.

I guess if you didn't read the Bible to much and you didn't understand about Jesus then it would be a Mystery. Maybe even one would not believe. But, when you have the light of Jesus Christ with in you then you can never not wonder how we ever did without believing in Jesus Christ.

Most rational people in the modern era find it hard to believe in fictional characters from archaic mythes primarily because of the sheer lack of credible evidence to demonstrate their historical basis.
