You have to change your perspective and set your sight on the big picture.
18 is just around the corner. You have to start setting goals for yourself NOW...not later. You cannot rely on basketball to support you when you have to leave mama and papa. Do you want to be a bum...live moderately, or have your way in the world? Now, not later is when you start.
Dig into those books. Put your time and effort into your studies and venture to learn what profession you want to pursue. Look for a career that you can enjoy as well as earn you a good living. Time goes by real, real, real fast my friend. Start preparing yourself NOW. Research ways to earn a scholarship and/or get a part time job to help you through a vocational trade school when you graduate.
Remember this...the smarter you are and the more learned you are is what will make things happen...not hanging out with the guys.
You can do it...but you have to persevere and stay focused.

Go to work at McDonalds for a week to see how you are going to like the job you are gonna get when you grow up. You might be assisstant manager in a 5 years.
As far as changing goes, ask God to help you with clarity, purpose and perceveriance, to help you rise to the challenge. Everyone gets complacent, You are competing with your future, learn all you can no matter how boring it seems. It will help you to deal with the future.
Oh I almost forgot, get a picture of you in your uniform and picture yourself at 50 doing the same thing. Blow it up and put in on the TV to remind you why you are doing this to better yourself

Just concentrate on getting all your work done early and don't procrastinate. If you're really struggling, ask for help from your teachers or someone who really understands whats going on in the class. Just try to start off good in the first week, then it will get better from there. As for the basketball team, you have to keep your grades up to stay on, right? So right after practice, do your homework, and go to bed early. Or find free times to do your homework so you're not just sitting around.

Stop using AIM, Myspace, Facebook, Yahoo Profiles, Xanga, Live Journal, etc...
They're a real waste of time. If you can't stop, then limit yourself.
