You can stay in a travel lodge hotel for about £45 per night, that's an average place to stay, not too fancy, but not a dump.

Restaurant wise, you could get a slap up meal in one of the posher places for £50 (one person).

It really depends on where you are planning to visit in the UK. Hotels in London are usually quite expensive and it is unlikely that you would find anywhere you would want to stay for £50. On the other hand there are chains of reasonable hotels all around the country where you could stay for under £50. Travelodge has already been mentioned, you should visit their site http://www.travelodge.co.uk because they also offer special deals which make some stays much cheaper if booked in advance.
There is also Premier Lodge http://www.premierlodge.com which offer rooms within that budget. It should not be too difficult to find restaurants that are low enough price to make your £50 more than adequate, especially if you like Indian or Chinese food. You could check out some of the hotel booking online agents like Venere, Hotel Club, Octopus or Alpha Rooms, all of these promote special deals that might suit your pocket.
Good luck....Have a nice stay.

in london you wont get a very nice hotel for 50quid. you can get a hostel though which are horrible. the rest of the country will offer basic 3 star hotels with no food for around 50quid.

you'll just about manage to have a good meal for 50 but dont expect much change and if you want to go to a really top class restaurant then you'll need around 70-80 for a basic meal with decent wine.

you could go to mcdonalds though for 5 pound!

£50 would just get you a bedroom for 1 night in most UK hotels - no food or extras at that price.
