The chicken soup dog food (Wellness) is excellent by reputation..I haven't seen the calorie count, but he may need more calories..Will he eat snacks? If I was trying to put on weight on a dog, I would feed a piece of multigrain bread with a slice of mozzarella cheese melted on it..as a treat, twice a day or so, between meals.

My friends fed this to their saluki to keep her up to show weight.

Also, adding fresh plain yogurt (1 tablespoon) to his dog food might help him digest more thoroughly.

This is not normal for a shephard to not eat more than this, they usually have a very good appetite. It may need wormed. Get off the dog food u are feeding it as this is full of nothing but fillers and it is obvious it is not agreeing with your dog. Try innova evo, it is a fantastic food and it takes less food to feed but it is high in nutrients and protein for your dog. Mix some gravy in with your dogs food and feed the dog twice a day and not once per day.
Seek a veteranarian as he can give the dog a good checkup and check for parasites. Fleas will make a dog skinny also and make them sick.

first you need to get him check out by a vet.
If nothing is wrong then you need to feed something with a high calorie content - For my own dog I use a highquality dogfood labeled "for high activity" - Hill's A/d could be an option.
If he is on a high quality diet be careful about adding vitamins etc - you might actually upset the balance in the diet, and worsen the situation.
and try not to make a big fuss over dinner time - give him the bowl, and take it away in 20 minutes if he doesn't eat.

Oh Curtis..... thanks to be a traitor.... LOL i wager it would not be terrible... If I were you, i ought to definetly upload a web page explaining the benefits of a uncooked diet, alongside with straight forward to maintain on with classes for begginers (i hit upon this to be the most complicated part of uncooked feeding, looking a newbie pleasant starting up web page). in case you DO settle on to promote canines food, basically record the professionals and cons. i ought to follow charges, as you've been observing. No corn. No wheat. No by technique of-products. have you ever also appeared at Diamon, Canidae, or Blue Buffalo? perchance not the great, yet compared to grain free meals like EVO that many times promote for 60-eighty$ a bag, they're nevertheless "suitable type" yet slightly more effective 'wallet pleasant' to the finest canines proprietor. BTW, Royal Canin is sh*t. i'm shocked you're even thinking it. properly up there with Hills, IMHO. Their entire merchandising ploy is "breed certain". certainly, why do seperate breeds favor seperate meals? that's a similar with pups ought to devour different then adults. a respectable food could cover all aspects of perfect food and health. Royal Canin is likewise a "scientifically striking food". which means that's more often than not filler crap like corn and wheat, and then supplementations and synthetic supplementations, different chemical crap, to operate contained in the food. No offense, yet i ought to somewhat my animal earnings food from authentic animal meat, not some synthetic supplement. My aunt orders Diamon on-line because she lives contained in the course of NOWHERE, Hickville united states (Indiana), and the nearest keep that sells puppy food is about 35 miles away. the suitable style they promote is canines chow. the nearest PetSmart, PetCo, or different tremendous departmental keep is virtually seventy 5 miles faraway from her.

put some of that gravy that you can get for dogs at the pet store on his food, or feed him a high-quality puppy chow( higher in fat AND more appealing) or maybe possibly even talk to the vet about appitite stimulents. You should probably get him checked out at the vet anyways, because this could be a sighn of an underlying medical problem

First, have him checked for worms.
Then , look at the protein level in your dog food. Higher protein levels have more calories in it so you might want to change to a food with a higher protein level.

Eating well, but not gaining weight often points to worms. Have him checked out with your vet. If this proves not to be the case, the vet should help you with the diet, as well.
