I visited a dermatologist for the first time due to concern on my face and as suspected, it's skin cancer. He didn't explain any treatment options but only told me he would do minor surgery to remove it and he drew a diagram of how the slices would go and where the scar might end up. Why do you suppose he didn't offer any other method of treatment? I am thinking he gets more $$ from the insurance company for surgery vs. cream or laser removal. I will call tomorrow to his office and ask why I wasn't notified of other available options. But I still wanted your input. Thanks!

Please see the webpages for more details on Basal cell carcinoma. Early treatment by a dermatologist may result in a cure rate of more than 95%. New sites of basal cell cancer can occur, so monitoring should be diligent. Regular examination by a health care provider is required. I suggest laser treatment. You may leave it to the Dermatolgist for final decision.

My advise to you is do not allow that doctor to cut on you! Since the Doctor did not give you other options and seems to me from what you have said, he didn't even talk to you to much about what you are going to go through, maybe for the rest of your life. This Doctor should have talked to you about what your option are and what each option is and the result of how each option will effect you for the rest of your life. He should tell you if you will have to have another surgery following this surgery, if you may need to take medication after this, everything he should have taken the time to do this for you. And since he did not, pls get another opinion. This Doctor has his wallet in mind and not your overall health. This Doctor is Greedy and may think your dumb. so he will do just about whatever he wants to do with you. Do not ,let him get away with this pls. To bad that we have these Doctor's out there in this world. But it is the case. When we think they come to save lifes , they come to kill lifes. This doctor to me is no good. this is my opinion of him, go for a second opinion. I bet when he's done cutting on you, then he'll mail you a letter and lie and say you missed an appointment and try to get rid of you as fast as he is putting the Money in his greedy pockets. Good Luck To You!

Did you have a biopsy of the site? That's the only way to know for sure if it's cancer and what kind and to what extent. If so, there are options that you should consider.
Actinic keratosis is a pre-cancer that looks similar and can be treated with liquid nitrogen.
